Does it come in Red and Black plaid? Is it wool?

It would be the simple stamped Flat Top Sporter with no markings. It would not be the later version that was used on the mid 30's-50's EG's.

Yup, the one on GB isn't right but I'm looking at one that is...

Rick, what do you mean by no markings?

I thought the flattop sporters were the ones stamped Savage Arms Corp. Utica NY Pat Pending. some have the adjustable elevator and some don't.

Am I confused??

This is the original sight that came off of my 1923 "G", also in .300 sav. This sights' contour will NOT work, or fit on the 1930 "G". There is no springed tension to hold the elevator down. But it fits and works perfect on the 1923 "G".

Mike (Lightfoot), if you think you have what I need, PM me please!

Thanks, Mike...

The "Pat-Pend" version was the first used after WWI. It has the elevator with the screw in it. The elevator might have switched to the standard thick elevator before the next version stared.

The 2nd is the "Utica. N.Y." with arrows on each side and a standard thick elevator.

3rd and last was the "no markings" version and thick elevator. This one started around 1926 and went to about 1935 which started the adjustable semi-buckhorn.

It is probable that old stock was still in inventory in 1930 but I think the 3rd version would be most likely. I wouldn't use the screw elevator with a 1930 rifle.

Savage #14 is the long Rocky Mountain. Like with the #15 Wind Guage, it ended about the time of WWI.

So the picture of the sight (see above post) from my 1923 "G" would not be correct even if it did fit!! Does anyone have a picture of this 3rd example?

Thanks, Mike...

I've got 2 of these. 1 with the adjustable elevator and one not. Both are stamped like yours Mike.

Hell, I don't know...

Mid = 1st version (early), used the screw elevator
Top = 2nd version
Bot = 3rd version (last) which would be correct for your 1930 rifle. It is possible that there were still 2nd versions in the bin in 1930 but I doubt that the 1st version was still around. Use a thick elevator with what ever sight you use.

Use what you want...few people know what is correct or care.

These sights were used on the Model 23's, also.
