Took it out tonight for the first go around. Loads are 150gr Winchester Power Point behind 40gr of IMR-4895. This is at 80 yards with the old Marbles tang sight. Not bad for an 83 year old takedown rifle....

I'd say that answers the question of whether you can shoot without turrets or not
Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.

But, it ain't nowhere near the center!!!! Good shooting, Steelie. How close are you typically up there to a deer when you shoot? Just curious, don't know the terrain.

SH,
I am sure that it wont be too long before you post a pic of you standing over a very impressive blacktail buck with that rifle in hand.
That is all class. All the best to you and good luck.

Nice group Steelhead. Is this rifle new to you, or an old fave?

Yep, doesn't shoot worth a damn. I'll give you $25.00 shipped so I can use it as a tomato stake.

I need to drop it down a bit, it is dead nuts on at 25. A figure a bottom chest hold will work.

Townsend Whelen owned several TD 99s over the years, he wrote that all shot very badly, finally had one made into a solid frame .250 with Niedner barrel soldered into the receiver and this was the first rifle he owned, in 1922, that would make 1" ten shot groups at 100 yards. Currently owned by Rifled Arms Historical Ass'n and when we tried it out a few years ago we got five shots into 1.5" at 40 rods - 220 yards. Saved the target and won't shoot rifle agai
