Hi folks,

Having chosen the Speer 87 + 100 gr Hot-Cors for bullets thanks to the forum input (thanks!), I'm interested in suggestions for powders to use. I'm going to use winchester cases, and winchester primers. From poking around the web, I came up with two powder candidates to try, both Hodgdon products: H4895 and Varget. They seem like pretty good fits for the 250-3000. Any advantages of one over the other?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Gee, steve, try to keep your posts less wordy. smile I haven't seen any load data for IMR 15. The Hodgdon site doesn't mention it. Do you have any pointers?

Thanks,
Mike

Do you mean Reloader #15????? I use 34.5 grains of IMR 4320 and the Hornady 87 grain spire point. Velocity is only 2733 fps, but the accuracy is excellent. Over the next few months I will attempt to increase the speed without sacrificing too much of the placement.

The H4895 works REALLY well out of my 250's. Been very happy with it.

Varget meters extremely well, has offered smaller extreme spreads, and has been more accurate than any other powder I've tried in my .250-3000s -- including the much-ballyhooed RL-15. Hodgdon 4895 would be my second choice.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

H4895 has worked extremely well for me. Varget has shown promise too, but I haven't given it as thorough a workup.

Win. 760 ( I think 38 grains better check)with 100 grain Sierra Game Kings work well in my Rem classic some 3/8" 5 shot and lots 1/2 -5/8 inch groups. --- Mel

Just recently tried Ramshot Big Game with the 100s and that is what I'm using this year. Took a good sized doe with it Thursday afternoon. I've only tried it with one group with the 87s, but it looks promising.

I agree! Good combo.
