Well, I can't think of anything that would top that! Very nice buck and classic rifle in a truly classic caliber. Did I mention that is one fine buck?

I would sure be intrested in the load he used, factory or handload?

I'm curious to know the bullet and performance,as I've never seen a .32-40 Win in action.

Who says you can't teach an old rifle new tricks. I finished the rifle hunt in style, and let me tell you that I am tickled pink about this old rifle and it's performance. Serial# 110### should put it about 1908. I was using factory 170 gr. copper jacket soft points. These just reached out and touched him in the right spot. Thanks for the help with pics Les.Bert, I haven't been hiding, just a bit of health problems ,but back on track now. Thanks to all the members for the great comments.I'll let you know how he tastes very shortly. Bob

Close, but more probably 1910.. in 1909 (right around SN 90.000) they switched the cocking indicator from the top of the bolt to be a pin on the receiver, and you got the perchbelly stocks. Hunting with a 97 year old rifle is awesome..

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

where would a fella find factory rounds like that?I have a 1899B in 32-40 and wouldn't mind something to shoot while I find time to work up loads.

I got a 32-40 also in a non Savage. Neat round. Try Buffalo Bore, I found some for about $35 a box.
