Here is a tool I use all the time to "pop" the action out of a newly bedded stock. I like it because it pulls straight up and doesn't twist the action in the stock possibly damaging the bedding.

Roy, My concern would be where the "U" channel contacts the stock next to the "ejection port". On some rifles the stock material is VERY thin in that area and putting that kind of presure on such a narrow area could cause damage.

Maybe it could, but in using it on dozens of rifles, it hasn't yet. But I believe if the action is that tough to get out of the bedding, something else might be amiss.

Sirs:
I hate barging in but the best tool I've ever used for this purpose is quite simple. A steel rod of sufficient diameter to get fairly close to filling the bolt way in the action. Drill a 1/2 inch hole and tap. A long shank threaded bolt or piece of all thread rod with a pair of nuts jammed together on one end and a piece of steel rod with a hole drilled thru to allow the rod free passage. You there have all the parts for a slide hammer. It will remove even to stuck ones and straight out at that.. For only a few minutes and a trip to the scrap pile.
