I have a number one in .300 H & H.. I have had 700's, 721's and model 70's.. All with 26 in barrels.. It is a great caliber.. Personally, I would stick with the 26" barrel.. It is my favorite length for most of my hunting rifles.. the original .300's had 26 in tubes.. Mostly I have been shooting 165's for elk or 200 gr. part. depending on the hunt..
