As the title says I'm torn on what I want. Looking for a ruger black hawk in 41,44, or 45lc. Main use is whitetail deer and pigs under 40yards. I do hunt in black bear country some but chances of it ever being used on one are very slim. I use to have a 4-5/8in 44 mag black hawk and loved it, I'm thinking 5.5 or 6.5 inch barrel. Which calibor do you recommend? Yes I do reload. Thanks
It's really a toss up ballistics-wise with the uses you cite. With you reloading, it becomes even less clear. The 44 Mag. will be the easiest to procure factory ammo for. The 45 Colt will give you an edge on even bigger critters, should you decide to go there. The 41 Mag. is by far the hardest to get ammo and components for. It would be my last choice of the three. 44 Mag. if your usage is strictly what you said or smaller.
