I had one original and one Jap, both were beautiful inside and out. They are too heavy to be a serious hunting rifle or a way of bear proofing a fishing trip, not to mention the cost of one. I have 2 Marlins now, one new remlin and an original JM. They are light function great, accuracy is on par with the 1886's and cost a hell of a lot less. If you beat it up or it gets eaten by a bear its not that big of a deal. To each his own, I use mine for more than just looking at, that's why I have 2.
