I think most of the Euro politicians are driven by both an empathy to what they think is a humanitarian crisis, and an overriding guilt left over from the Holocaust. That leaves them vulnerable to criticism anytime they try to protect their borders and their culture. They are deathly afraid of being called racist and xenophobic.


This is going on in America too. The guilt of slavery and not taking in the prosecuted from Europe in the 30's drives much of our national collective guilt towards immigration as well as support of various countries. It drove our intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina too.
