Actually did OK on 3-4 books we did with traditional, but with most we would have been better off publishing ourselves. The Internet and digital printing made that far more practical than ever before, the reason so many writers are self-publishing these days.
There've always been problems in any business that supposedly pays royalties to authors, musicians, artists and even inventors. A lot of people are greedy, and also think they're smarter about making money than writers, musicians, artists and inventors. In some ways they're right, but the combination of greed and a superior attitude sometimes leads to outright theft!
