Words I DO like to work into conversation from time to time are "bludgeon" and "afoot". Also, even though I'm not British, I like to throw in "Bob's your uncle" from time to time...
Can't blame you there, calling something the "mutt's nuts" sounds WAY better than calling it the "cat's a$$"...
