Just as it was a machine, the cotton gin, that made widescale slavery profitable newer machines would have made it unnecessary. Mechanisation would have ended slavery as it would have reduced the need for vast numbers of unskilled laborers.
I'm not sure this is correct. 20 million unskilled illegal aliens, are working here, with no reduction in sight.
