Best as I remember (hope someone here knows for sure) but I think I read it was built to go head to head with a Remington 1100. Due to cost to build the Super X1, it was at a higher price point and so the 1100 kinda won the battle.
I think you're right. These were about $75-100 higher than a comparable 1100
