..The most accurate rifle I've ever owned was a Rem 788 in 22/250. I, living in Georgia, Had little use for the rifle save punching one hole five shot groups you could cover with a DIME! That rifle asked for factory Winchester premium 55 gr. loads to shoot such groups. Never had any problems with the gun and traded it off here on forum for a new in box CZ550FS in 7mm Mauser. The CZ does well with factory ammo too,printing three shot groups under an inch.
....I've read much about the weak points of the 788 design, even more about it's excellent performance. I've not had a friend who's expierenced any of the 788's shortcomings, but everyone I've known who's owned one has bragged of it's shooting performance. I'd buy another in a flash, if I could come upon a 308 carbine in pristine condition with the early walnut stock.
