FWIW, Ken "leverdude", seems to be respected at marlinowners.com WRT rifle mods, parts, experience, etc., given my surfing previous posts. Ken responds that within a manufacturing time period, the 1894, 39A, 336, 444, 45/70 should all interchange buttstocks. Assuming straight grip to straight grip, of course.

marlinowners.com comments on interchanging stocks

I am seeing more and more comments to the same effect. After all of that, (just trying to expand options,) I realize that having the stock comb at scope level instead of iron sight level would be extremely nice. I know at least one version of the 444 is set up that way.

I'd still like to see someone actually swap a 336 straight grip stock with a same-vintage 1894. Now, it's just a matter that I gotta know.
