are you sure its not a mauser 98? If i remember correctly the 96's should only be fitted with barrel like 257 roberts and 6.5X55 because they cant handle the pressure. I would probably shy away from a 25-06 model 96
Sinman, the Mauser 96 he's speaking of is not the old Military M96, but a newer design produced back in the early 1990's (IIRC). It was a new design, incorporating a straight-pull design, as opposed to a "normal" rotating bolt. It didn't sell well (probably because it was "different") and was discontinued a bit later. I always thought it was an interesting design, but I've never seen one here in ND....
