The Palouse around Moscow is good. I never could get the hang of big woods hunting. I always hunted the farmland near Deary. Just start knocking on doors, and someone will let you hunt. My best luck was to find a semi open area and push through it like you were pheasant hunting. Sometimes the bucks would stop just long enough to give you a shot, and other times they wouldn't.
There are lots of open canyons with thick bottoms between Lewiston and Orofino that carry bucks too. Hunt these the same way. If you are hunting in Nov and a doe comes running out be ready.
