I bought a MKII All-Weather 338WM at Sportsman's a couple years ago when they were bringing out the Hawkeye and discontinuing the MKII. It was a great deal at only $459 so I scooped it up. Put a limb saver pad on it before I even shot it. Gun points and shoots great for me even though the cartridge itself is more of a "novalty" then anything else. A 7x57 would probably kill anything I ever hunt.

If I was saving my hard earned and really serious about a rifle heavier then a 300 mag it would be the 375 Ruger no doubt. I think it is a REAL step up performance wise.

Hitting where you intend is always more important though and if your scared of your rifle that will be tough to do. The 338wm IMHO is not that "scary" with a lot of practice. I weigh about 180lbs and usually pop off 20-30 shots before I have had enough. Never shot a 375 and probably never will.

You need to call it. I can't call it for you.
