I don't think Toyota has the upper hand in this horse race. Toyota knows this and is in the process in bringing out their next generation that should be something to behold. Maybe even hybrid powered. I've coon fingered both vehicles in my quest to replace my Z-71 extended cab. I really liked the Nissan over the Toyota on several fronts. By the way, what's up with the brakes on the Toyota. They really need improvement. Namely 4 wheel discs.

Toyota makes the most reliable and durable (there is a destinction) vehicles in the world in my opinion. But as far as full sized trucks go, they just seem to fall a bit short of the mark. I never did consider the T100 when it came out. And Tundra is about 7/8's of everthing I want. Power, size, room, etc....

Back to reliable and durable. My Z-71 was reliable. It never left me stranded and generally did all that I asked. It was a 1997 and had (still has) the best ride of any full sized 4x4 that I have ever driven. Including my new Crew Cab, which I'll get to in a minute. Durability was a problem. Things just wore out slowly and sometimes not so slowly. The brakes had to be redone about every 25,000 miles. I went through a couple of sets of rotors, also. Two transmissions, a rear-end, air conditioning, alternator, front-end, rear engine seal leak. I estimate that I have put about $10,000 in repairs on this truck over all. Did I mention it rode well?

After 7 years it was time to retire the beast. I was determined to get a Toyota or the Titan. Even considered the new F-150. Just couldn't get too excited about that one. I ended up getting a GMC Z-71 1500 Crew Cab. Why after all of that?

The truck had everthing that I wanted. Size, power, style, excellent dealership, can tow behind my RV, and a few other things including the price. I resolved my durablility problem by getting the 7 yr extended warranty included in the $28,503 that I paid for it. Less that I could get the same equipted Toyota or Titan for. Basically, I put the responsibility back on GMC to keep my truck in running condition.

There is something to be said about not having your vehicle in the shop you say. Well you are right about that. However, when I have a vehicle being repaired, I drive my Toyota RAV 4. It never breaks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
