I don't know if you guys have picked up on this. But in my Mauser military, even my slightly lengthened mag box would take those bullets seated to the cannelures. But that little extra, either requires the full length Rem and Win actions, or more than half of the exposed bullet shank below the cannelure must be cut away from the M-98's lower bolt lug abutment. You can get a little from the rear of the mag box, but after that, high pressure rounds will start to cause trouble.

This manifests itself as vertical stringing, and then you have a drawer full of parts, instead of a beautiful, working, rifle. But the M-98's design incorporated a third safety lug under the bolt handle. This keeps the shooter in one piece, as the accuracy goes to H@#l.
