When the OP said "tripod" I thought he was talking about a Spotting Scope tripod --- hence, my SLIK answer.

Yes, I took a lightweight spotting scope on my Caribou hunts and enjoyed having it. I could have gotten along without it certainly --- but I take what I think will add enjoyment to the hunt (within reason) and my spotter sure did that.
For instance I spotted a Griz that I never could have identified as such with my binoc.

If I walk 1% less distance because of 2 pounds of spotter and tripod -- so be it. I'm long past the stage of proving how tough I am.

I should mention that my Caribou hunts were DIY --- after the Beaver got us there.
