The top name brands (Warn, Superwinch, Mile-Marker) all build good quality units. I suspect some of the others are okay too. Buy the biggest one you can get because when you go to sell it a 12,000 or 10,000 is easier to sell than a smaller one. I have a Warn 6000# utility winch and it works fine for most jobs around my farm. It won't pull a truck and trailer out of the mud, even double lined, and if I buy another it will be a least 10K.
