As to the blocks, aluminum. I have aluminum, cast iron and brass and don't see a lot of difference in the quality of the boolits thrown or how long one can throw in a session. I can say that casting with a good quality 6 cavity aluminum mold is a lot less tiring than a 4-5 cavity brass or iron.

You just have to learn the idiosyncrasies. I've found that aluminum blocks like to be cast kinda hot, and cast fast. Since aluminum cools fast you have to keep up a brisk pace. If you're using a 6 cavity mold, you'll end up with a large pile of bullets in no time. I like them all, cast iron, aluminum, bronze; they all work just fine.
