The shop near my house has a very good reputation for being honest and not gouging their customers. I'm going to have to agree with that. Long story short, catalytic converter was toast and causing other problems up the food chain. Shop guys got it figured out pretty quick. I just couldn't get to them fast enough to give them the go-ahead, since I went to work last night about the time they were closing.
Spoke with the owner this morning. OEM catalytic converter is double after market price I found online last night when I got home, $575. He said I could go aftermarket, if I wanted, but it has to be welded in and I'd probably be revisiting it again in a year of so. Will also need both front and rear O2 sensors, and the throttle body cleaned. They're charging me $65 for the troubleshoot and another $170 total for all other labor. I thought that was fair enough.
Gotta love the drive by wire's and pollution control systems. smile
