Scariest is a tie: 100+ (speedometer topped at 85) in a CJ7 with no top or doors and 31.5" tires on the interstate, and about 100 in a lifted 1984 Nissan pickup (33.5" tires; 4" lift) that came over the railroad grade and tracks and launched about 30' before touching down. In both cases: very NOT smart.

He was afraid of it and didn't drive it much, so he was looking for a drive. He knew I raced motorcycles from time to time so he asked me to come give it a shot.

I might have hit around 110-120, but GOOD LORD that thin scared the living chit out of me. When I dumped the clutch and hit the gas it felt like God was ripping the world in half. I think I was up over 100mph in about two seconds and it was everything I could do to keep it straight. I let off, and let it coast to a stop, got out and said no thanks. You'd think a 16 year old kid would be all up for that, but it was way more excitement than I needed in my life at that time.

I drove by his house about 10 years ago, the trailer is still in the back of his driveway. He never got a sponsor, never got a driver, and apparently never sold it. Kinda sad.

Them f'kin' Beemers will FLY. Had access and driving privileges to the early 600series and WOW. Never pegged it, but I was driving it on mountain resort roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Any car you can routinely hand those curves in at 100 or so, is a BAD machine.

150 in a Turbo Dodge Stealth

120 on a bike........would have done more, still will, but that was enough for me as I don't need a wheelbarrow for my family jewels.

Did Mach .86 on my Cushman Eagle.

Did 190 kts almost straight down w/o a parachute or wings.

I wear aviators just to make people confuse me with Maverick. I'm that awesome.

There are a few pilots here, including an F-14 jock (prm). None have chimed in yet.

Digital Dan is FOS. He was a flyboy.

Hey, I chimed in earlier. On the ground, 110 is my tops, probably.

Went 350 knots (402 mph) at less than 50 feet altitude a few times. Things kinda whiz past. Broke the Mach at altitude, and will claim 1,000 mph. Not overly fast as jets go, but hey I FLEW JETS!

You're sounding jealous.

I'm getting a chuckle regardless.

File this under 'Believe it or dont", the first fixed wing I ever flew was a National Airlines DC-10. Her name was Barbara. N62NA. Over west Texas/eastern New Mexico. FL390.

160 mph in my old 75 Trans Am with the Factory 455 and Hurst 4- speed. I had bored and stroked the engine and added a racing Cam.

Out ran more than a few cops with that car.

Me? Jealous? Oh, good Dan sir, no. Just putting up the honest numbers for comparison. Only had to post it twice for the guys who asked "What? No pilots?"
