175 on my friend's AHDRA Pro Drag (P/D) to get my NHRA license.

The bike below is not his but runs in the same class. Basically a Top Fuel Harley but the P/D bikes have smaller fuel (nitromethane) motors, a carb instead of fuel injection and are jackshaft bikes with no transmission.Clutch set up is air over mechanical over weighted centrifugal.

oh jeez guys, y'all are forcing me up against the wall.

110 mph in a 64 chevy 283 while topping a hill near midnight with the lights turned off.

but wait, there's more. the Earth is rotating at a staggering fast speed then, it's revolving around the sun. then the whole galaxy and solar system are expanding "outward" at break neck speed. yes, we're all doing it together.

speed is what we do down here on the Urth.

135 in a 1990 Ford Mustang racing 2 other mustangs. I was in 2nd at the time. 135 in a 1989 Crown Vic with blue lights on top. Routinely over 100 on night shifts and 80 in a 35 responding to assistance calls. Did not get nervous until around 120, stuff moves quick then, although, a herd of deer at 100 will wake you up quick. I was much younger and stupid. Drive a school bus now going to work so none of that silliness.

Moved shortly after finishing building this car with my buddy

It got him into the 300 mph club which was the goal of building it. I lost track of how many class records it set but it's still racing over 20 years later.

458, I see you've been on salt. A Buddy of mine holds the world record for a single cylinder British bike on salt.

Too bad we don't have a SR71 jockey here.

Acted stupidly when I topped out at 105 on a 1968 Honda CL450. Doubt the speedometer was honest.

Wow, I'm not in the same sprint class as you kids, but can claim some pretty good average times point to point.
Top single run speed is only about 125 or so, but one time my dad (retired ADC) and I made it from Pugetopia to the Flathead with an average speed of 86.2 mph. We would have gone faster but there were 3 or 4 WSP aerial copz we saw or heard on the radio, or the laser and radar detectors went off.
Top speed on a bike is also in the 120, basically a redlined KZ750E, I did that only after spending a bunch of aftermarket money on suspension goodies and V-rated meats. Before that, the headshake and weave was not exactly confidence-inspiring.

Unmarked 69 Mercury patrol interceptor 150 and got cold feet, officer that it was assigned to said it would do 165.Some fast cruisers 1967 to 1971.

Worked the interstate from 67 to 89 125 mph was hit several times a day to overtake violators.

Speed is the only thing I miss about police work, well that and free doughnuts. grin GW

All these claims of these speeds, but for how long ?
Did you just see the speedo hit it and back out or did you hold , and for how long ?
Autobahn speeds are held at those numbers for long periods of times as your cruising from one place to another.
Seen many an American car on the side, with a blown motor, cuz they can't maintain those kind of rpm's or speed for very long.

And how accurate is that?

People have quoted speeds that accurately tested cars with more horsepower and better aerodynamics have trouble matching.

55mph

On a Vitus road bike, coming down the Cuesta Grade. Wearing nothing but Lycra, on tires about as wide as my pinky. 54-12 gearing.

Once, and never to be attempted again...
