Beautiful car. I'm sure there's still plenty of fun to be had the slower speeds. wink

I had a '68 GTO that I took to 140 many times.

'78 Trans Am that got there quite a few also.

I'm only alive by God's grace.

ETA: The Goat felt solid on those speeds, the TA much less so.

Just over 150 indicated on a Yamaha FJ 1200
Just over 140 indicated in a 1962 Chrysler 300H. This was on bias ply tires.
Both instances were when I was still producing testosterone. Today neither of my motorcycles will do much over 120 and my car is doing all it can at 100. GD

I was really hoping one of our F-14 jocks would chime in on this one.

8.53 @ 160 mph in the 1/4 in my Rear Engine Dragster back in the 97. Tons of similar runs.

9.70's @ 138 in my Duster in 2001 all motor (No power adders)

A legit 185 mph plus on my old Hayabusa that was indicating over 200.

None of that compared to being on a wheelie on my R1 about 10 years ago and looking at the speedometer...153 and had to wait for the hill to pass before I set it down (another few hundred yards at least) So in other words I rolled it up in first, shifted through the gears to 5th and set it down however far that takes. Sometimes you just get a hold of the tiger and can't just let go smile

I have a 800 plus HP street car now with a F1C Procharged 364" iron block LS engine (full aftermarket built internals AFR heads ect) and my greatest amount of effort in a lot of ways to date. Planning on over 200 in the Texas Mile and 9's in the 1/4. 100% street car with AC and all. Looks fairly mild too.

Before I hear anything about being crazy...I am an speed freak going back a very long ways. Pretty much don't do any of that stuff on the road.

Did a lot of track days at Texas World Speedway's Road course on my R1 and FZ1's. Hardest thing I think I have done is ride a fully loaded KTM 950 Adventure over Engineer Pass from Lake City to Silverton. Never worked so hard to stay upright as that going less than 10 mph. It was Engineer or the one where you turn on the south side of town and go to Silverton. I have been back in the FJ and I forget which one is which.

Edit. The KTM ride I mentioned is Cinnamon Pass I believe looking at the maps. If you head south out of Lake City and turn right along the river...that one!

Mach 2+ in a slick F-4. I never wound out a Tomcat to max speed because with the TF-30's and non-centerline thrust, if you had a burner blowout it could turn sideways and come apart shocked

In a car... 140 in a '67 327/350 horse Vette. It was a bit twitchy

In the air, I don't know how fast we were going but I was flying with Georgio Perfetti who owns Mento's Candies in Italy. We were flying to the Missoula gun show in his private jet, a Beachcraft Premier. At one point he put it into a verticle climb of 10,000 feet per minute. I don't know how fast that is, but I did start to black out about the time he pulled it out of the climb.

The fastest in my GTO was about 132 mph chasing a Porsche Carrera down the frontage road past our house. I didn't know how fast we were going, when we stopped he told me. At that rate of speed, you do not take your eyes off the road. I wouldn't do me any good to look at the speedometer anyhow, it only goes to 120...

Marvin Royal if I remember his name correctly (an AMS2 from the Midway) claimed they held the record for a VERY LONG while at sea level. I was with him at an A-6 Squadron later but one of their Phantoms with his old squadron laid down some serious speed on the deck. He said it ruined most of the ECM leading edge panels and leading edge tape was pretty much torn a new one but that beast proved with enough THRUST even a brick was stupid fast.

Had my 900 KAW up to roughly 130 when I was a bunch of years younger. I remember the slowing down was scarier than the speeding up.

Jessi Combs...

On October 9, 2013, Combs drove the North American Eagle (NaE) Supersonic Speed Challenger at the Alvord desert, claiming the women's land speed record with an official run of 392.954 mph (632 km/h) and a top speed of 440.709 mph (709 km/h). In doing so, she broke the 48-year-old women's land speed reicord, a 308.51 mph run average, set by Lee Breedlove in 1965.

Girl's got her stuff together..

I haven't had my 2013 Mustang GT (420 hp) over 98 mph..... yet

Got to love women who drive. A friend raced the Silver State. Her average speed was 186 and roped out at 216. In the late 90s.
Finest run I saw was at Bonneville. I was on the timing crew stationed at mile 5 on the 9 mile course. A guy had a semi tractor doing 177.....what a song!!!
It was cooler than the streamlined doing377..
The semi was out of Grants Pass OR. Didn't finish the run......blew both front tires.
I love speed week.

KZ series?

God bless the '77-'83 Kawi liter bikes, particularly if it was a Z-1R series or an '83 1000R Eddie Lawson replica. I am missing one bike for my vintage 70s-mid-80s Japanese muscle bike collection, and it's one of those two.

Ridden like a 14 year old lass, but this model I've lusted over for 3 decades+. I will not be denied one in this lifetime.

Going to the 12 Hours of Sebring race from Melbourne, FL I have gone many total miles on back roads at 150 in my old 1986 Porsche Turbo. Maybe 10 years and no accidents and no tickets. My current car is an Audi S6 and I have only had it up to 140 on clear stretches on I25 between Denver and Colorado Springs. It is electronically limited to 155, but Audi says it would hit 190 mph without the limit. Car and Driver timed the Audi S6 0-60 time at 3.7 seconds.

yeah there is a local guy around here that builds that and a bunch of other custom things that goes fast......

on the flip side, no matter how fast I've gone in a car or other vehicle, the guys I think are nuts are the speeds that some of those guys hit in Europe on a Bicycle on some of those races coming down off of a mountain in the Alps....

Like 70 something mph, on bike wheels as thin as a razor blade...
and the closest thing to your nuts is a metal bar, which would be no fun if one of those tires blew... whistle
