If this is already public, I've missed it. Anybody know?

Could be he simply followed the news van in his car from the station.

I know he said he put the down payment on the gun after the SC shooting.
When did he take possession of it, compared to his meltdown?

he lived just a couple of blocks from the TV station.
matter of fact they told the girl he shot not to live there because he was there.
So the guy was threat enough they told employee not to live around him.
No one at the TV station understood why he was still there because he had no family or friends in town.

No one at the TV station understood why he was still there because he had no family or friends in town. Had the TV station and individuals that felt threatened and endangered by this guy file a protective order and sought legal remedy, then he may not have had the latitude to do what he did, in the manner he did. But, had he wanted to do it bad enough, he would have found a way. No matter what.

Or he may have continued to fester in cat litter box hell, surrounded by glammour shots of himself taped to the fridge, stacks of gay porn and di!ldoes with dead batteries.

Sounds like he's been to a couple of the same suicide scenes I have. Ed Yeah, its certainly no surprise. Could have even been an educated guess, but this time, its news: Police who raided killer gunman Bryce Williams’ home after he murdered two journalists live on air found gay porn, unwashed sex toys and cat faeces inside. ... Sparsely decorated with hardly any furniture, neighbours said he would lock himself away with only his computer inside for entertainment. ... Inside his kitchen he posted countless pictures of himself on fridge showing how he was unable to let go of his failed career at a TV news presenter.
