Just traded for a .375Win Marlin. If I can find a bullet, I might give it try... Last time I looked buffalo bore had some. Pricey but good. Thanks a lot, will check them out. All I found at Walmart was dumb looks.

If I go this year, I might think about taking this one: Sweet looking 760, I've never owned or shot one. Would like to change that sometime in the next year.

Mathsr, that little Huasqvarna of yours looks like a nice bit of kit. What is it chambered in?
Those HVA Mauser actions are very slick and reliable units. Such a shame they aren't still made. Without doubt, one of the best of the commercial Mausers.

Please post pics when your done. I'm about finished up with a fast twist 32 cal underhammer muzzleloader.
I hope to take a deer with it using a maxi ball this year.
I have lost count of the guns I have bought, killed deer with, and subsequently sold.

This one is a 30/06. Over the years I've had a few rifles in 30/06. Some I liked, some I didn't, but for whatever reason they all went down the road. I saw this one on one of the broker sites a couple of years ago and bought it. Some rifles are keepers and I think I have found one in this Husqvarna.

I live out west, for decades I shot big magnum cartridges. I shot .300 Weatherbys, 7mm Rem Mags, .257 WBY mags etc... I liked the thought of driving aerodynamic bullets across big canyons to knock down distant bucks. I think I've killed around 70 bucks total. Blacktails, Muleys and one Whitetail along with several Elk a couple of Caribou, several Pronghorn Antelope and numerous predator species both big & small... Finally I just got tired of the pounding I was taking to my shoulder and my ears. In recent years I MUCH prefer short action rifles. In the last 5 years or so I've shot bucks with a Winchester M-70 SS 7mm-08 using 140 gr bullets and a Remington M 700 SPS in ,243 using 80 gr bullets using my stalking skills to get closer to seal the deal. No wicked recoil, no muzzle blast and a lot more money left in my pocket. Last Thursday's buck killed with the .243 using 80 gr Federals.

I have probably a dozen deer rifles from 25 caliber to 9.3. Modern Sporting rifles to Mannlicher stocked bolt actions. Here are two monster deer I killed. Both were shot with 115 grain bullets going between 2500-2700 FPS. Similar ballistics but very different delivery systems.

I have the twin of that Husky and have owned it for around 25 years or so. It is still my favorite rifle.

Assuming I recover from surgery in time I'll be using this new to me Glenfield 30GT I've got a Leupold VX Hog 1-4 I'll be mounting with a set of Warne QR rings. Doesn't get more "Deer Rifle" for me than a 30-30 lever action. I sure love my Marlins!

Great story; I also like using different stuff. Up this year first will be a '57 Marlin 336SC (.30-30) with an old Lyman 3X. Classic, but still relevant. Bob My Marlin 336SC is a 35 Rem. It is not drilled and tapped so I use it with a Williams peep. Haven't gotten a shot at a deer with it yet, but I'll work on that this season. It sure shoots targets good. I will carry one a time or two this season topped with an old Weaver V3.

My deer rifles include 3 .30-'06 (Ruger 77MKI, Push Feed M70, and a Savage Axis II), 3 20ga Shotguns (a Charles Daly Semi 20ga, a Rem 11-87 20ga, both with rifled chokes, and an older Mossberg Bolt Action Rifled 20ga), and a Win '94AE 44Mag. The shotguns and the .44 use Dot Scopes, and the '06's use either 3-9x scopes or 2.5-10x scopes.
In the wings are a pair of .223's, a Mossberg MVP Predator with AR BDC 3-12x scope and an AR with a self built 16" Upper and a Vortex SPARC.
The AR Lower is modified with the Thordsen NYSAFE Compliant Stock, and the Upper uses a Stag Model 3 NYSAFE Compliant barrel from their 3G rifle. It's pretty accurate with the deer loads.
The .223's are sighted in with Fed Fusion 64gr Factory Bonded Deer Loads, but I still can't make up my mind whether the .223 is right for the job.

I have shot deer with 9MM, 357 Mag, 44 Mag from handguns, and with 223, 243, 270, 30-30, 30-06, 7MM Rem Mag, 44 Mag, 35 Rem and 45 Colt from rifles and they all did their job.
In all honesty, I used a Hornady LE 60gr TAP load from my AR, shot a nice 7pt from about 115 yards, quartering towards me, full penetration, deer fell instantly from vital shoulder shot, went thru shoulder, ribs, both lugs, liver, more ribs and out the opposite side.
Deer went down just like it was hit with any other rifle.
As long as its a good bullet and shot placement is good, your OK
My grandfather and many others used to hunt with a 22 Hornet rifle for many years shooting a Win, Rem or Federal 45gr soft point, and they always shot behind the shoulder and kept the distance under 150, same result, meat on the table... He said the 45gr SP hornet would penetrate thru and thru more often than not

My deer "rifle" this year is going to be a 14" contender in 30-30. Haven't decided on the load yet, but it shoots well. Have a 4x on it, and I'm confident to at least 150 with a good rest. If shots will likely stretch a bit beyond that, I want to try some stunt shooting with a RAR in 223, with either some Partitions or 68 Hornadys.
If elk are in the mix, then I'm confident in the 30-30 handgun with 150 SSTs that are shooting really well. Once again, with the range limitation of about 200yds. Runner-up is a Marlin in 44 mag with Lee 300gr WFN if range limit is woods-distance.
For open country and longer shots, 30-06 is my stand-by, with 180/185 of some flavor, with my confidence in long shots falling onto Berger 185s. Hunting some new terrain this year, and I've not seen enough of it to make a specific plan. Been out of town for over 2 months, so I'll have to hustle to wrap up my scouting before the season starts.

Already took my mulie buck on Oct.1.. Used the 700 in .270.. A hit with a 140 gr. Sierra HPBT at the base of the neck dropped him in his tracks.. Only a 2 point, when the game and fish aged him they found he was 8+ years old.. Going down hill..
Still have one more tag.. It will probably be very late Oct or Nov. before we even make a hunt for it.. Must be a whitetail..

Last year my first was taken with my M77 MKll stainless UL in .30-06, with the old boat paddle stock. I really like that rifle. It really likes the 165 grain Sierra Gameking.
My late season deer was taken with my 1951 vintage Marlin 336 in .30-30. It is my favorite gun overall. It was my Grandpa's, and my daughter will take her first deer with it in a couple years. It is a big fan of the Leverevolution ammo.
This is the year of the .35 Remington and the .270 WSM. The .35 is also a 1951 vintage Marlin 336, and the Short Mag. is an FN made Winchester Featherweight. Shot some killer groups with the Short Mag. tonight. It likes the Gameking, Hot Cor and Accubond, equally well. The .35 will hunt the mountains and the Featherweight will hunt the piedmont.
