Best friend's son plays for UGA, just got a text from Richt that he's out after the Bowl game.

UGA fans are nuts! Who fires a coach after a 9-3 season when you knew you didn't have a QB?

Who are they going to hire? If you listen to Sports Talk radio, they claim the can get Jon Gruden or Jimmy Johnson. They think Jimbo Fisher would leave FSU because UGA is such a primo job. They think Gary Patterson from TCU is the answer. They don't realize that USC (SoCal) , USC (cocks), Miami, Mizzou (what a snakepit right now) are all prime jobs. They don't get the fact that all but maybe Mizzou will out bid them. S. Carolina included, if you look at their last 2 hires (Holtz and Spurrier) you know they think big.

You can kiss this recruiting class goodbye, probably including Eason. Maybe they bring Bobo back? Ray Goff #2 right there.

Didn't think it would actually happen. Richt is a first class recruiter and runs an outstanding program, but constantly managed to fall just shy of expectations(reasonable or not).

Go Dawgs.

It's to bad LSU decided to keep Miles. He and Richt could have battled it out for the South Carolina job.

Seriously though, I don't think UGA would have let Richt go without a solid lead on a new coach. UGA is a great school with a storied tradition. They will move along.

UGA was picked by many to win the SEC East. They came up short. Time for a change.

AU was picked by many to win the SEC West. They came up way short. If only they had Dak Prescott...

Not winning when it matters in the SEC is a tough row to hoe.

Youd hope they have a plan in place, but who knows.

5 and 10 against Florida and 10 years since the last SEC title hasnt sat well.

Watch him end up at SC or Texas and win it all laugh

truly, there is some luck, talent, majicck, chemistry, and careful positioning of personnel in the fit and the mix.

and the whole thing remains in flux.

and please don't forget the part that money plays in the overall positioning.

i mean, when we watch college football on the TV we want to be entertained. those folks who can manage a good entertainment experience will probably be paid a good contractual salary.

well, there is that.

maybe an important question is just how much should a coach be paid in order to bring home a National Championship?

what does a National Championship cost, in other words?

That's exactly what could happen!! And guys want to play for Mark. He's a very good coach and knows talent. Probably wants to stay in the area as well. Another dumb decision that will bite some SEC alum idiots in the butt. Especially, with TN and ARK on the rebound.

SC wanted Herman from Houston but that's now dead.

OT rumors have Dabo moving by his own choice BUT I just don't see it. Especially, when he wins the whole enchilada!! grin

SC has to be one of the best jobs in the SEC. Great fans, boosters, talent, and expectations arent ridiculous compared to some of the other schools in the conference (Spurrier may disagree!).

Gamecocks will wind up with a kick-azz coach based on what you just said.

Everyone is allowed their opinion.

LSU fans are tired of listening to/seeing the same old broken record.

Above avg. to great defense... above avg to great running backs... above avg offensive line... above avg to great receivers... WAY-WAY BELOW AVERAGE QUARTERBACK!!!

And, there are other things... if you can stay within 2-3 touchdowns at halftime... you stand a good chance of beating Miles... he cant coach. Miles has extremely talented players and a below avg coaching mentality.

Run make 5 yds- Run lose 7 yds- QB cant complete a pass, so Run again... punt....... that is les miles offensive pkg.

Of course if your playing Podunk College, this offensive plan will work... but when you have to play in the SEC West... well you can see the results for yourself.

Richt to Miami.

If Kirby IS smart, he'll go to SC.

People treat a 10-2 or a 9-3 coach very well there. They'll even forgive a down year if you've been producing. Kirby doesn't need to sit behind Saban for another 5-6 years. He doesn't want to be the one to follow Saban. Ask Ray Perkins or Bill Curry what that's like.

UGA has the most disgruntled fan base in America. They are continuously, disappointed and butthurt to the point of psychosis. They get over revved every season that starts out 4-0 only to crash into the "they broke my heart again" depression after a loss in a big game. Happened this year as soon as Bama blew them out. They are too manic - depressant for their own good.

If Chip Kelly goes back to college, it will be the West Coast - USC.

Quote
Will the Miami Hurricanes hire former Georgia head coach Mark Richt?

The Georgia Bulldogs made the shocking decision to fire head coach Mark Richt on Sunday.

Richt has been the Bulldogs head coach since 2001 and has a 144–51 record, including going 9-5 in bowl games.

Richt instantly becomes one of the biggest names on the market for open college coaching positions and there is one school that seems to be a natural fit, the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami fired Al Golden and are currently looking for a replacement as Richt gets fired and essentially falls into their laps. Richt played high school football in Boca Raton and went on to play quarterback at Miami in the early 1980s, backing up Jim Kelly.

It could be the homecoming Miami fans have been dreaming of.

If the connection between Richt and Miami isn’t enough to convince Hurricane fans that this is the man to go after, his 145-51 record in the SEC, which includes two SEC championships and 6 SEC Eastern Division Titles is an impressive resume to bring to the weaker ACC.

Not to mention Richt’s ties to recruiting in the region already.

This could be a match made in heaven, but if any name can throw a wrench in this pair coming together it is Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who reportedly could be headed back to college football as the Eagles continue to spiral out of control.

But Richt returning to Miami could have the kind of impact Jim Harbaugh returning to Michigan had. That might be something that the Hurricanes can’t ignore or turn their backs on.

It ain't just Georgia my friend. It's all of college football.

How many coaches over the last 15 years at Tenn? Aub? Miss? FL? ARK? and on and on and on. Granted, most havent averaged almost 10 wins a season.

Fact is Georgia is a premier job that comes with a premier paycheck and they will absolutely compete with h SC, Miami, and others for a head coach.

wish Georgia had kept Richt. As bad as Florida has been lately, at least, with a Richt coached team, the Gators could beat them.

No doubt, but they have serious competition for available coaches this year. USC and Miami have the glitz. SC has shown they will make the bold hire. Mizzou is a good job, especially for a Big Ten or Big 12 coach. Then there is uncertainty at Texas...that will be a prime job should it open.

Miami's best days are far in the rear view mirror. Richt is a proper Southern Gentleman and would never be caught dead living in the ghetto.

Coral Gables is hardly the Ghetto but the school administration would have to do a 360 and then come up with the money for a quality HC. I don't think they have the Boosters other programs have.

Kirby Smart has an opportunity at his alma mater, lets see if he wants to get out from Sabans shadow.

I cannot recall so many major programs with openings. I know a lot are waiting until after the bowl games to announce hires but my best guess is there will be a lot of stinkers hired.

How many big time job openings will there be when the season ends?
Bigger question; how many(and who) quality coaches are available?

Either that or go back to the NFL ala Pete Carroll.

Rumors of Richt staying at UGA as Asst AD and Houston coach coming on.

Don't know what Asst AD pays, but doesn't sound likely to me. I'd love to see it though.

Tom Herman? That will be interesting.

I don't see Richt working with the guy who replaced him, so I see him elsewhere.

Report: Houston coach Tom Herman interested in UGA job

Mark Richt and UGA have “mutually agreed” to part ways

With Mark Richt out at UGA, we already know that Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has been strongly linked to the school’s coaching vacancy. Now it looks like Bulldogs fans can add another hot young coaching name to the list of possible candidates: Houston coach Tom Herman.

Herman, who has led Houston to an 11-1 record in his first season as head coach, would be “highly interested” in bolting for UGA, according to Josh Newberg of Dawgs247.

Herman had previously been tied to the South Carolina opening, but the latest word from that potential pairing was that Herman is no longer interested.

Herman was part of Ohio State’s national championship run last season where he served as offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer. His offensive style, which incorporates several elements of the spread, is far more new-era than the pro-style, traditional scheme that Richt ran for more than a decade at UGA. Whether that would affect UGA’s next recruiting class, and particularly the commitment of 5-star quarterback Jacob Eason, would be an interesting factor to consider

Richt is a "nice guy" and pure class as the Spiritual leader of his players and coaches. He treats everyone with dignity and respect. He pulls in top recruiting classes every year filled with 4 and 5 star athletes. The main problem is they just can't seem to win. Not sure if he would agree to fire some of his coordinators just to keep his job. I doubt that.

"With the news of Mark Richt's dismissal at Georgia spreading fast on Sunday morning, some of the nation's top prospects took to social media to share their thoughts. Most were surprised, others were saddened while some were just flat out disappointed. Either way, expect the school to move quickly in order to hang on to a class that still has potential to finish among the country's best. - See more at: https://uga.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1831598#sthash.pxZmpNDr.dpuf

Coming on the heels of Georgia’s announcement that Mark Richt wouldn’t return as head coach in 2016, a source tells 247Sports that current Houston head coach Tom Herman would be highly interested in the opening in Athens.

The 40-year-old Herman is regarded as the hottest up-and-coming coaching candidate in college football. He spent three seasons as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator — winning a national title in his final year with a third-stringer in Cardale Jones — prior to landing the head job at Houston last offseason. While with the Buckeyes, one of Herman’s primary recruiting territories was the Atlanta metro-area, which could help him if he were to be hired by Georgia.

Herman has been linked to the opening at South Carolina, but reports say he’s withdrawn his interest. Industry sources believe he’d be content waiting at Houston for something to open at Texas or Texas A&M (Herman played college in Texas and GA’d with the Longhorns), but an offer from Georgia would be enticing for Herman to turn down.

According to the 247Sports Team Talent Composite, the Bulldogs have the seventh-best roster in college football, based on recruiting history.

In Richt’s 15th season at Georgia, the Bulldogs are 9-3 but third in the East Division, despite entering the year as the favorites to wind up in Atlanta.

UGA alum Kirby Smart and Dan Mullen will also be considered, 247Sports’ Rusty Mansell believes.

Herman has Houston at 11-1 in Year 1 and will play in the AAC title game this weekend.

I don't understand the AD's mentality I guess.

Expect Irsay to make a MAJOR push for Saban after he fired Grigson and Pagano.

Saban might do it too as he'd be offered control over football ops and has a decent QB to work with.

Saban wanted Brees in MIA - got Culpepper instead. Saban's ego also knows that there's not much left for him but to go down at Bama and the NFL part of his resume is less than stellar. He wants another shot at that.

Maybe, and at one time I thought he was egomaniacal enough to want the NC/Superbowl on his resumé. In listening to him especially over the past 5 years, I see him in a different light. He's more of a perfectionist/worry wart than an egomaniac IMHO.

I think, like Spurrier, he got a taste of the NFL and players that make so much that they are uncoachable and unbenchable, that he wants no more of it. Could be wrong, but I think Bama is his last stop.

We may disagree on Auburn's woes, but you pretty much hit it on the head about Saban. Him and his wife really like what they are doing and where they are doing it.

All the speculation on Saban is a waste of time, my bet is he only leaves when he retires.

More competition in the B1G than the old Big 8. Big 12 was too much for the Huskers, too!

Speculation this morning is Kirby Smart is the one targeted for UGA. that miht leave Tom Herman for SC, but reports are he has withdrawn from consideration from SC. That might set up a bidding war between UGA and SC.

If it is Kirby, that will probably not be announced until after the SEC Championship game this weekend. Makes for an interesing week in these parts.

First of all the man has a statue in front of the Stadium and will probably retire from that program, a guy can only coach so many seasons and he is close to his limit IMHO.

That said afterr Sabans fiasco in MIAMI there is no way an NFL team gambles on him unless all possible candidates have been hired by other teams or college programs.

They got a hell of a coach and with Foster still coaching the defense things look good. I still wonder how in the world UVA still steals players from that program.

The Osborne - Pelini pairing jibes very nicely.

Just a smidge of offense should get them back to the top of the ACC Coastal. They have the talent but Beamer was so damn loyal to Stinespring....
I can't figure the lure to UVA either. Look at the talent Al Groh brought in there, and he couldn't win either. Their hires just keep making Welsh look better and better.

USC removes interim tag from Clay Helton who becomes full time head coach. The field starts to shrink. We'll see if any more firings are in the mix.

I really like Kirby Smart and remember watching him play when I was there.

That said, I agree. Tom Herman would be an exciting hire.

Well, Richt has already interviewed with Miami and Virginia. Lots of opportunity out there. Good year to be fired. Sounds like he was ready to get out of there.

Maybe, but Kirby is as big of a crap shoot as Muschamp was at UF. How clever do you really need to be to run a defense that Saban loads with an endless supply of 5 star recruits?

There are a dozen D coordinators I can name off the top of my head that could equal the Defensive stats given those same players (Muschamp, Chizik, Roof, Strong, Pruitt, Chavez to start the list).

Kirby might be Nicky II, or Boom Jr. We don't know. The fans will be happy, more or less.

Heard today that Miami is out. Richt doesn't want to be in South FL.

Wouldn't be suprised if he took a year off. He damn sure wasn't ready to leave GA. Still kinda shocked they pulled the plug. 145 and 51 with 14 bowls in 15 years.

Who ever comes in better be hanging metal inside a few years.

The natives were getting restless. UGA could not win the big games that would have put them over the top. That along with the fact that UGA opened this season with no QB at all, only a freshman and a couple of transfers, the starting one could not start first team at UVA.

I hate to see Richt go, he's the best Georgia ever had in my opinion, but the rumblings had been going on for a few years.

Guess we'll see how it turns out.

Was surprised to hear that Richt was a QB at Miami with Bernie Kosar.

and Jim Kelly and Vinny Testaverde..

Class of 82, Miami's depth chart for Kelly's senior season also had Richt, Vinny Testaverde, Kyle Vanderwende and redshirt Bernie Kosar.

Richt will bring alot of class and respectability to the U. He has strong ties with high school coaches in Florida, and is a proven top shelf recruiter. I'm guessing Miami will be back on top in the ACC within a few of years.
