There has always been a portion of America that idolizes the bad guy. If you'll notice, most of the Trump supporters here at the 'fire have espoused Edward Snowden as a hero. Seems to run counter-grain. Trump supported the government and not Apple. I disagree with Trump on that.

Seems Roberts was conservative before he was put on the court.
really want to hedge bets on potential "change" -----------
Cruz thought so too with his vigorous support of Roberts. Do you have a link??? Vigorous support??? Laughin here... ----------- Your cluelessness truly doesn't have any limitations.

Here is why I think Trump is resonating with people.
Lets start with why his two main competitors are not resonating with people first:
Cruz: While ideologically more conservative and more closely aligned with most of us here at the Campfire and others who are well versed in the Constitution and History he comes across, at least to me, as a smarmy little policy wonk nerd on TV.
This may work well arguing court cases before the SCOTUS or an academic debate team but its not going to fly very well with a public that in large part doesn't know the tenets of the Constitution from the discomfort of constipation.
His televangelist delivery style, PossumPuss smile, and dirty political (whether real or just perceived) maneuvering doesn't help him either.
Rubio: Rubio is the RNC's fairhaired boy and as such is the personification of all that a large part of the country is FED UP with. He also has elements of the nerdy policy wonk too.
Nino Bonito Rubio is also aligned with milquetoasts like Graham of SC and is way too willing to push for amnesty for the illegals.
He represents a LOT of what people are sick to death of in Washington.
Now to Trump: Is he perfect or even a token conservative? No, not by a snootfull. But, he has things that reach far beyond political purity. Trump has tapped into the ill will toward Washington that exists among a large cross-section of the populace in a BIG way. He gives voice to the FED UP.
He is also far better at the media and marketing game than either Cruz or Rubio will ever be. I think some of his antics and off the wall statements are by design. They attract media coverage like a cow pie attracts flies. Trump speaks, the media airtime is sucked up and his rivals are lost in the din.
This marketing stuff will help in a general election.
In the general election he won't cower from Hillary when she goes on the attack the way McCain and Romney did with Obama. He will hit back and even get NASTY.
His celebrity and perception of being successful and a "Winner" will catch and hold the attention of many of the those that don't pay close attention to policy positions.
Add in the effect his kids and wife, one and all smart and ATTRACTIVE, can have on the campaign trail and Trump becomes even more viable.
In fact, I think Trump could peel some usually blue states (i.e. PA) from the DNC column.
Like him or not he is the BEST chance we have of keeping the Wicked Bitch of the East out of the Oval Office and putting a shot across the bow of the RNC Establishment.

Trump didn't vote for Clinton.
Cruz supported and voted for Roberts.
A Cruz nomination will again give us Clinton.

Trump didn't vote for Clinton. Did he give her (and him) money? Cruz supported and voted for Roberts. Apparently vigorously A Cruz nomination will again give us Clinton. there's equal spitballing that a Trump nomination will give us Clinton. And more that a Trump nomination gives us Clintonesque should he win the general.

I am ignorant about his support of John Roberts, that's why I asked for a link on your claim that a state AG would "VIGOROUSLY" support a SC nominee & how you would actually "KNOW" that as a fact...Not that it really matters, because John Roberts had a lot of people fooled...

Ask Donald what his politics were 10 yrs ago and he was as liberal as can be. Just throwin' this out there, but you DO know that Reagan was a Democrat before he was a Republican, right?? Seems he came out ok.. Reagan was a very successful republican governor who had a solid record for damn near 20 years before becoming president and comparing a 50's democrat to todays variety is just plain idiocy... And during his governorship he legalized abortion and outlawed carrying loaded guns in public.
