I took my young techno geek son in law out deer hunting for the day and I noticed he spent half his time looking at his phone.

I finally told him you wont find any deer in or with that contraption!

To his credit he laughed, put the phone away and enjoy the rest of the hunt.

I do enjoy Jeff's pic's of the Steens though. So Jeff keep up the good work.

I'm out in the wilderness and got caught in an early season blizzard.

Back at camp for breakfast and coffee... side note... unless you own Coleman stock, don't buy one of the newer little butane stoves. Love the function but DAMN does it suck down the fuel. I may run out of canisters and have to use my backpacking stove.

Another side note. My buddy Mark and I do lots of non-hunting adventures together and find ourselves, by way of excuses when we are, say, huffing and puffing up a long steep bike climb: "how many other 50-something year old guys are doing this right now ...." well let me add to that. "How many other 50-something year old guys pooped in a hole in the ground for the last week?"

I'm not real keen on coyote kabobs but in survival situations such as this you pretty much take what you can get.
Too bad I don't have matches otherwise I could have lit a fire and cooked the yote meat. Raw is a little gamey.

For the record I did use a golf cart and yes, a cooler and also a barbwire gate were involved today.
('maiden voyage' for a soft/light RTIC 30, figure if I ever roll it won't hurt as bad getting hit by a soft side...)


I have no desire to shoot uber fat, semi-tame bears perched on river rocks but would absolutely love to kill a few wolves. They are top 3 on the future hit list.
