My wife, dad and I had a great season of hunting. Lots of driving from hunting whitetails and elk, down to hunting mule deer. Got a chance to see some beautiful country, some new and some not so much. First one to tag out was my wife with her mule deer. She was one happy woman after getting her first mule deer. She spotted him with a group of does and a coupe smaller bucks and made the stalk up on him. She made a great shot at 240 yards with her 7-08 and downed him with one shot. I am so proud of her! Some of the beautiful country we saw out hunting... Next up was my dad...trying to find him a decent whitetail which was looking like it was going to be a chore with the warm weather we were having. I found a hidden cut block one day out hunting and showed lots of promise with deer sign and elk sign in the very back of it, hidden from view. We hit it early one morning and after a couple of grunts my dad spotted a buck moving thru the trees and down a small hill. I continued to grunt while he moved up and made a good shot with his .243 putting him down. Great day again and to share that with him, what memories are made of!

I was the last to tag out on an animal...I hunted hard for whitetail with no luck at all, just seeing a few spikers and very few does. I tried to concentrate on filling my mule deer tag after that. I made a few trips down covering lots of country in search of a decent buck. I sat all afternoon watching a group of about 7 bucks including one old buck with heavy antlers on in a field. I passed on him that day but continued to think about what he was and the mass he carried on his head. My last day to go out my wife and I hit one spot quick to see if a particular buck had made an appearance, which he didn't so we went back to see if the old timer was out again. After arriving we found a fairly decent 4x4 with some does, but he was young and was going to a real trophy in a couple years so I passed on him. As we went along the old guy was there making his way over to the buck we just saw. After getting a closer look at him I noticed a few nontypical points that he carried which made me even more sure that he was the one. When I had the chance I took him with my 25-06 and he went only about 10 yards before going down. As I walked up to him it put a huge smile on my face. He's not a huge monster but IMO a great trophy to have taken an older buck. He scored out at 171 2/8" gross with mass measurements over 6" and a spread of almost 24". One of my most memorable hunts with my wife and I thank her for the support and making me realize how great of a trophy he is.
