Kingston, I want one.
I think that is a full sized stainless Colt 1911.
I am going to buy one.
I already have everything else in the picture.

I'm not going to win at quick draw contest, but if I survive to get it and the spare mags I'm going to raise hell with 46 rounds of 9mm. grin

If you need to come down this direction, might want to throw a couple extra loaded mags in the vehicle as well.

I had a Kel-Tec 3AT, which is just like a Ruger LCP in my pocket for years, and handed it to my friend to deliver the coup de grace to a buck antelope.

It did not fire. There was too much pocket lint inside. I took out the magazine, pulled back the slide, and blew out a huge ball of lint. Then he killed the antelope with it.

I now check firearms for pocket lint, especially the P3AT and LCP.

I carried this .38 Super for a few days this last weekend. I can't say I enjoyed the weight, but I enjoyed the thought of it. grin

If you're gonna carry something that size, why not a 45.. seems like much more thought enjoyment.

You just can't replace that sectional density. And kinetic energy.

Wayne, I respectfully disagree. On sectional density, that can be matched to the common .45 ACP loads with common 9x19 loads. The 9 may not quite make the top end .45ACP KE numbers, but they are certainly capable of getting into the same ballpark as most .45ACP loads.

If you are talking momentum, then yes, I agree because there is no replacement for mass in that equation.

That said, the 9x19 covers a lot of bases today, and especially firepower when threats are more likely than ever to be in multiples and damned well armed.

A friend of mine used to carry a 1911 with 200 grain loads. He practiced daily at his house, shooting into some sort of backstop he had made. One day he changed and shot some 230 grain loads and was amazed at how much more noticeable the impact that extra 30 grains made on the backstop. You can try and explain away penetration or whatever with a 9MM, but it aint gonna have the same effect on what receives the bullet. Sectional density is a result of the diameter of the bullet, you can't match SD with a smaller bullet. Energy comes from weight and size.

Yes they are heavier to carry than a 9MM, that's why I carry the Glock and not a 1911.

Your friend was witnessing differences in momentum. Mass always makes a bigger difference there than anything else. Momentum is a function of mass times velocity (m x v). Kinetic energy is a function of mass times velocity squared (m x (v x v))

Sectional density is a ratio of mass to cross-sectional area. The formula is weight in pounds divided by the diameter in inches squared. SD of a .452" 230 grain bullet is 0.161. SD of a .355" 147 grain bullet is actually slightly higher at 0.167. Matching sectional density between one caliber and another is pretty easy as it is a ratio. What cannot be matched is mass.

Well, your SD numbers may be correct, but in the real world, there is a reason the US adopted the 45 long ago. The "let's be nice" 9MM thing has seen it's day. Are we not going back to the 45?

After handling a few, and then handling some more, I'm leaning toward the S&W Shield, but still mulling.

Let me know if you want me to send you a couple rolls of electrical tape for those 49 Colt grips.
