Why not just move the homeless family in with the Citizens? Would save the middleman. laughing

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2017/03/multnomah_county_wants_to_ince.html
Quote
With more than $300,000 and volunteer homeowners, Multnomah County has a new idea to fight homelessness: Build tiny houses in people's backyards and rent them out to families with children now living on the street.

The homeowners would pay nothing for the construction. They would become landlords and maintain the units for homeless families for five years.

Then the tiny houses would become theirs to do with what they want. If the homeowners break the contract before then, they pay the cost of construction.

The project would put the 8-month-old joint homeless office - a shared effort between the county and Portland -- in the housing business while offering an innovative, if so far small-scale, way to chip away at Portland's affordable housing shortage.

Four tiny houses are tentatively scheduled to launch this June at $75,000 apiece, with the hope for up to 300 accessory dwelling units as they're known in the next year if the first ones work out.

The Multnomah County Idea Lab, a 2-year-old office focused on using out-of-the-box thinking to create public policy, combined tactics of the Federal Emergency Management Agency with a county weatherization program to come up with the plan.

The tiny houses would help fill the need for low-income housing before the recently passed Portland housing bond and private developers can build the 24,000 units that studies say the city needs to stem its housing crisis.

What kind of an idiot would want that in the backyard? None of the tiny homes will be livable after 2 years, let alone 5. They'll be nothing but drug dens and meth factories.
In addition, OR has renter protection laws. If they're there at the end of the 5 years, the homeowner has no way to collect rent or evict them. He could be stuck with them for years.

Yes, I am sure they'll put the homeless right back out on the street after 5 years when the landloard wants to reclaim the mini-house.

Sure.

Ever try to get rid fo a single mom tenant? Now call it homeless and it'll be a pure joy to do, I am sure.

Riiiiight.

I thought the big sales pitch for tiny houses was low cost of a few hundred bucks at the most. How the fahq do you justify $75K a piece?

Who are the scum-sucking democrap sons of whores that are getting rich off this?

For half that price, they could buy perfectly livable RVs if that's what they want to do. Park them at a city-owned "KOA" lot with hookups.

That is, if you agree that the goobermint ought to take care of everybody's every need. Which is the definition of socialism.

Yea I think about $25,000 of each $75,000 goes directly to graft/corruption/la mordida as the case may be.

We were just talking about this at work. Decided we want that $75K shed contract. We'd even discount it down to $65K if they bought 10 or more at a time.

Outside of Multnomah county it's a joke (Hell probably inside it too), but it's just another example of the idiot children they've repeated elected there. Needles and piles of shidt all over the back yard. Sure. Sign me up.

If they're anchored to the ground, all the permit and inspection rules kick in. They actually do cost that much if you follow the laws. Most of them are built on trailer frames just for that reason.

Ha! Are you kidding. They have permanent homeless camps (squatter camps) all over Portland and there isn't one building code enforced.

You fail to grasp the alternate reality that is Portlandia.

Here's some examples of the squatter shack's the county is proposing.

Think you could get occupancy permits in any other part of the country?

I'm guessing property taxes will increase too. After all, you just added a $75K Keebler elf hut on your property.

What a lovely 75,000.00 home...cripes, they must have some potent drugs up there...my experience with the homeless, is they will take you for all they can, then say eff you, when the handouts stop. Kinda doubt the homeowner would actually be able to get rid of them.
