I hunt these three EVERY YEAR... If I wanted to make the most of all my chances, no doubt the .300, if you shoot it well.. I like my .270 more each season, but for serious hunting .300..

My answer to the OP's question: Both... I am taking a 7.0lb .270Win (130gr NAB's) and an 8.5lb .300H&H (200gr NAB's) to Colorado for elk in 3 weeks...

I don't get to do any hunting anymore but if I were going for any of the listed critters, it would be the .270. I have an old neighbor who hunted for years with a .270. If it was good for Fred Kilgore, it's good for me. kwg

This thread should not be....."Which rifle would you use" It should be...."Which rifle DID you use"
Thank you very much ☺

I'd use my .270 with 150 Partitions for all of the above. I really like my .300s, but enjoy carrying the .270 much more.

I would use what would work great for 90% of what I was hunting and let the 10% sort itself out. For what the OP says he will hunt seems the 270 will work very well.

I have stock Model 70 rifles (soon to be custom) and have shot the 270 Win. cartridge extensively in the past few years and would not hesitate to it on Elk. This said, I'll be using my .300 Win Mag as an experiment for Elk this fall. This cartridge is more versatile (albeit generally heavier recoil, heavier rifle) for larger big game. I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

Is this now the fourth resurrection of this thread? I never answered it before but I'd go .300 mag.

I don't think I've answered here before and I'm not going thru 11 pages to find out. I'd pick 1 of these 2 Right -- Tikka T 3 Lite SS 270, Weight 7 lbs 6 oz Left -- Tikka T 3X Lite SS 7mm RM, Weight 7 lbs. 9 oz. Either will work, I probably would take the 7 RM. Jerry

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Funny seeing the same old questions get answered.....
Is the OP even around? Would love to know what panned out. I'd guess like everything else. Boots sprung a leak, transmission went out on the truck, had the flu.......or my favorite, animal shot at 35 yards.
