Long ago Ruger offered the #1 in an AB configuration. I had one in 7X57 with really nice wood, in fact I bought the gun because of the wood. When I had my first custom rifle built I choose the 7X57 AI and foolishly sold the #1. I still look for it on line and at guns shows hoping it will show up. The good news is after almost 30 years I still have the custom rifle and will take it out Sunday which is opening day.
IMHO if Ruger offered these as a semi custom rifle with nice wood and available features as case colored actions rings, grip caps etc and priced them between current costs and say a Dakota 10 they would sell. I have done two full customs on this action and both were way less then a comparable Dakota would have cost.

I have one of the original AH’s and love it. A friend/FFL ordered it for me from Lipsey’s when I was stationed overseas. It sat for 6 years before I was able to see it.
It’s my favorite No. 1 for sure. I have several but being that it’s so rare and easy to carry makes it the one I use the most.

Well, I guess I have an “almost” AH. Had a mediocre shooting 1A 30-06 rebarreled to 7x57 several years ago. It’s got a 23” 1A tapered barrel. Absolutely love it.
Why a 23” barrel? Oh, just because.....

Actually, there has been a run of No.1A's, with a 25" barrel, done as an Exclusive for Classic Sporting Arms last year. a few are still available.
Forgot yo add-it is a 280 Ackley Improved!!

I think the 1ah is great. My primary, and for years only deer rifle is a 1a 270. After serious study and reading, the young loonie in me insisted on a 280, settled for the used 270, which has always [bleep] better than most. Got lucky
However, I am skeptical that the balance is really different, considering the massive front sight on the A vs 2" extra bbl on the ah, didn't feel much different to me...
That 25" 280ai is something I would really like, gotta be careful not to hurt the 270s feelings though, after44 years and @ 80 deer and an elk...
