When is the guest cottage going to be completed? Can we use the neighbors until then?

I think we're looking at the same two lots. I'll look into a visit your way.

I remember this is the thread that got me started reading 24 HCF years before I signed up as a member.

Figured I'd toss this up here too....

It has been long enough (probably too long) on the first coating, so we're looking at re-staining the hunting shack.

Sikkens application guides say to sand off all the old stain, prior to new application.

I'm lazy.

Is it really necessary to remove all the stain to re apply? I've read power wash, don't power wash, sand it all, don't sand it all....seems like there are a lot of different opinions out there.

Even if I wasn't lazy, our weather windows are usually too short to sand it all down, then re apply the new coat.

Can we get by with just a good cleaning? Will it look like [bleep] if we do?

Any thoughts?

If you take the time it takes, it takes less time.

Every time I tried cutting corners with anything paint related, I did it over ...

Lightly sand, then power wash and let it dry before you recoat. Don't like that Sikkens schit. An Adirondack friend put it on some VG cedar lap and it looked like schit in 3-4 yr. Heavy body stain from a GOOD paint company is the way to go, every other year. It never forms a film and just weathers to chalk and falls off, minimal prep next go round. Get a sprayer or work in a team, one guy uses a 2gal pump sprayer and the other uses a 4in stain brush you can thread a pole in. Spray it on, and brush it in.
