I'm going to be posting progress pics of a new hunting shack being constructed in Paradise. This is Brother Dave and Brother Bill's new house.

I'll let Bill and Dave fill in the details. I work for the construction company building the house. This pic is from last wed. We now have the floor on, and we are starting on the first story walls in the morning. I can't wait to haul all of the plywood up for the second story floor and roof............

Many more pictures to follow........

Is the trophy room full of water?

You're fired....
We figured you would want your own fishin' pond.....

It's been raining HARD............
Quote
You're fired....

Just for that, your house is going to be crooked...........
I guess it could be the pool...<grin>
Sweet! I been waitin to see some photo evidence that your actually earning your paychecks... Don't sweat the new pool, we'll just have to harvest a few seals...know any good taxidermists?
Actually, I filled the trophy room with rock and dirt. I then leveled it, and used a plate compactor to pack it down. So, it's not full of water, it's full of dirt, with a very shallow layer of water on top that didn't soak into my well compacted dirt. We will be putting foam on the dirt and then pouring a slab foundation for that part of the house.

Nothing is as fun as spreading two dumptruck loads of dirt by yourself..........

[Linked Image]
I hope you remembered to bury the....uh, item we talked about? I'd get the slab poured soon before the decomposition of the...item becomes apparent to the neighborhood via foul odor..
We are waiting for a roof before we pour. The smell will blend right in with the smell of dead humpies........
MB
Where are the anchors for the stripper pole? Women the size of the Brothers' intendeds need a serious anchor...
art
We are installing a 5x5x5 concrete anchor to serve those purposes. The brothers also had us install 2 1/2 inch plywood on the floor to insure that none of there heavy-duty cuties fall through...............
Good thinking!
WoW... that's one shallow crawl space! I'm thinkin' water's a problem? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
That the garage in the background?
Tell me it ain't the neighbors place...
Oh yeah, it's the neighbor....he loves us already...<grin>
I like the privacy wall...
Moved closer to the property line...w/a few spruces atop for decor.
Yeah, we're thinking the same.

Waterfront land in Paradise is in short supply...couldn't find any without neighbors.
Dave,

A few more pics of the progress.......

[Linked Image]
And this was how it looked when we quit today.......
[Linked Image]

Your house is going to be very tall. The 10' cealings will be awesome............
Personally me thinks a campfire house warming party is in the makings......

Mark D
Sweet...you guys are jammin'......thanks a bunch for the photos..
The Mother of All Spring Flings will make for a good housewarming............
I agree...though there will likely be several house warming parties, for various different participants.

I've already tapped some Bush Co. talent (x3) for one of the get-togethers.

That won't be the one we fly mom and dad up for....<grin>
This is gonna be a long, cool thread before it dies...
Yeah, it's going to look like a house when you guys get home. If you haven't talked to Chuck, call him and tell him if you want a 4' or a 6' door leading into the trophy room. We wasn't sure, so we couldn't finish framing in that wall. (notice it laying on the floor)

As an aside, Big Elk have been killed since it opened the 1st. I've heard of 4 confirmed kills.

Sorry I missed your call..........
I tried calling him several times today, and left messages to answer some of the questions he left on my voice mail.

That wasn't one of the questions.

I have no idea how wide that hallway is, so no idea how wide to make the door. All interior doors should be 8' high, and as long as I can get a drunk haidappotomus through the opening without bear grease, I'm cool....
Think about fitting that full-size brown bear mount in the room though...............(grin)
Somehow I gotta believe the plane tick would be $ well spent!

Just set the time, the Montana group will be more than willing to add something to the party.

Mark D
Plumb,square and dimensional...
Lookin' good
Dayum this is xciting!
Last time I was home there was nothing but footings...MB will have to keep us posted on the progress, in order to predict the timeframe...

I have no doubt it'll be worth the plane ride...<grin>
Quote
Dayum this is xciting!

Yeah, pretty cool.....
Here is a portable stripper pole. Notice it comes packed in a nice gun case, so the old lady will think you are going on a hunting trip. I always travel with one.

[Linked Image]

This site should help accessorize the LOVE DEN.

Stripper Supplies
Perfect...
This is a non-permanent pole (not to be confused with the travel version). I find this one to be handy when you move around every couple of years. Of course you will probably opt for the permanet version.

I will say it is fun to watch it collapse in mid-spin during a Kid Rock song..............

[Linked Image]
Forgot to mention, it is rated for 250 pounds, so it might not handle the majority of Paradise women, but that is the fun of it.......
Now for some hidden vidcams...
Looks good man, I'm sure you'll get a long just fine with the neighbors!!! Kinda like the place we all lived in having the trucks with straight pipes, corvette, harley and a few snowmachines...our driveway looked like a drag strip and served well as one for a while (grin). When did we loose our focus in life?
You got a girlfriend...I got drunk....
Somebody needs to buy the place next door!
BW,

I was just thinking....... Are you going to be in town for Christmas? I wanna come play...............
No plans for travel right now except for a few days in early December.

I should also be here the first half of November.

TURN YOUR PAD INTO A...
LOVE SHACK!

By NIGEL FLEMING

WANNA take a babe to a romantic spot? Forget about costly restaurants and clubs and dangerous out-of- the-way spots.

Here's how to turn your own crib into a dynamite love shack.

"Forget about romantic strolls on a deserted beach," notes love therapist Nolan B. Schmitz in his startling new book, Cool Dudes, Hot Houses. "You could get mugged or step on a broken bottle. And don't bother with sexy ski resorts. You could break your leg skiing or freeze your butt off.

"If you want a truly romantic place to woo that cute little love honey you've been ogling for months, invite her to your pad, but not until you transform it into the most romantic place on earth."

Here are just some of Schmitz's suggestions.

Plant shrubs all around your house, and cut them to look like hearts. This will show that you are romantic and perhaps a little less masculine than Richard Simmons, but who cares? And if you really want to go nuts, trim one of the bushes to look like Cupid.

Paint your house a dreamy color. I suggest hot pink or red with yellow polka dots. This makes a statement about you. It screams, "I love color. I love women. I love you!" It might make another statement to the skinheads across the street, but that's their problem.

Make sure you have a fireplace in the master bedroom and in the family room, or whatever other room you reserve for intimate moments. (Avoid the bathroom to avoid methane gas explosions.) A warm crackling fire helps to remove inhibitions, as well as combat boots, a chastity belt, a muumuu or whatever else your foxy date is wearing.

Fill your bedroom with lots of sand. It worked for Brian Wilson in the s'60s and it can work for you. This way, you can lie on the "beach" without getting sunburned or seagulls-bombed. Make sure to include a beach umbrella, some folding chairs and a portable radio and you'll be playing Beach Blanket Bingo before your little Annette can moan, "Oh, Frankie . . . you're soooo romantic!"

Replace all your light-bulbs with candles. The soothing, flickering lights will definitely set the mood. They will also burn down your love shack if you're not careful, so don't be a moron and set the candles on the edges of tables or on top of a pile of old newspapers.

Pop in a romantic CD to set the mood for love. Some folks enjoy the sounds of nature, such as thunder, wind, waves or singing birds. Others get turned on by Usher or Alicia Keys. If the woman of your dreams is a little older, play some Frank Sinatra or Johnny Mathis. And if your babe has an AARP tattoo on her forearm, you might try Rudy Vallee.
What? You must be kidding....

Ned emailed me the same thing....<grin>
The lure is in the water.
You from California <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

How come nobody is ever working in the pics???? A bunch of drunken hunters, pole dancing in Alaska and grizzly bear rugs just doesn't quite seem right. That's it, I am wearing my cast iron chastity belt around you guys <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Flinch

Well, since we know it ain't good looks or charm....it must be hard work, eh <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />?!

Pics of the chubby lady? I tried to get Ned to take some...so I could show this buddy of mine ( is that illegal <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> )....but he claims it makes him upset to his stomach to look at it....and I am too cowardess to do it myself. I do have her #, if you are interested <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />....she isn't bad look'in. Well, Ned said she looks like a wart hog....but he is mean and nit picky....especially with women that talk too much, lol?! She is constantly NEEDING him to work on her bike....and all she EVER talks about is her Weight Watchers Program (no, I am not kidding). She doesn't care much for me...especially since I told her about my new guns and upcoming hunt <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />...but she sure does fancy my Nedly!

I probably couldn't smuggle her into Paradise past Bonzi anyway....

I think we're in trouble....though some of that would make good targets...<grin>
I think a group house warming present is in order. I am quite smitten with the BigStick windchimes, but my vote is for either the little pee-er <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> or the aligator chia pet! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I snapped new pics today and I am in the process of uploading 4 of them.. It's gonna be awhile for the upload, but I'll post them when their ready.
This is fun watching the house being put together
[Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
Thanks for going out there and taking some pics man....looks good!
I took a bunch of pictures, but it's hard to see what's what with everything just framed..........

They might have the second story done by the time you guys get into town.. Sorry, no roof.
Looks a lot smaller than I envisioned.....
More pictures of a stagnated job-site.
How long b4 the water delam's the plywood?

Thnx for the pic update.Lookin good!
Dave,

As I said before, your house is going to be very tall. The trophy room will make it look bigger, and might fulfill your hopes and dreams.....:-)

I think you'll be happy about the size when you see it in person.
They are going to stagger the studs in the trophy room wall....right?
One might get the impression it rains a bit there... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I gotta feeling the suds studs will be staggering in the trophy room! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
LOL
Master Bonzi

Could you drill a few holes in the floor next time your there that standing water in the floor is really bothersome<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Great looking piece of Paradise going up!

Mike
Hey..that's a good idea....

Post more, MB...
I've been working out in the rain since June... It has been a rainy summer and a very rainy fall.

Dave,
I'm not working on your house right now, as I am off working on another project. I'm sure the trophy room will be done right.
I'm uploading more pics.... it's a very slow process
Yeah, that's painful...
On a serious note... aren't you going to use plywood on the walls in the trophy room and cover that with sheet rock? Seen too much stuff fall off walls and the plywood eliminates that... and it is fairly cheap.
art
[Linked Image] [Linked Image]

Dave... A little bit different perspective

Bill, I heard from Big Momma that you are bringing down a certain someone with you... Tell her to bring down her friend who is a guide and was pictured in that fishing magazine, and we'll call it even for the pictures. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
BTW, I'm pretty sure the lower pic is your master bedroom/closet/bathroom. Then, on the right side of the pic is a bathroom and the laundry room? It's fun looking at these pics trying to remember what is what.
Yep, good guesses....thanks for the extra pics...

Art, we are going to plywood the trophy room walls. Interesting that the wall between the trophy room and the house is visible in this upper picture..and doesn't show a staggered stud system...looks more like that wall already has plywood...

Nice to see the progress regardless.....

I'm getting the feeling the house is too small....
How Many Sq Ft is it supposed to finish at?

What do you mean by staggered studs? I just know about 16" centers being fairly standard. What's the purpose?

I was never a framer...

Mike
I think the grand total will come out about 3700 sqft...

The way it was explained to me is when you use 2x4 studs on a 2x6 wall joist, the studs alternate flush with each side of the 2x6 joist so there is never any direct contact between each side of the wall via the stud. It helps dampen the sound transfer between the wall of two rooms... that way no one will here Joel in the trophy room with all his strippers.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Cool!

That's going to be plenty big! Doesn't look that big in the pics..

Mike
my house was also too small to start out with...then I had to clean it...Maybe this one is a tad big.
Fletch was putting some sound board in some of my walls... he can probably give advice as he has had to deal with noise transfer problems a few times. I tired putting up soundboard after it was built then sheetrocking over it. Worked ok...kinda... but not like the double walls with air space, insulation and sound board before the dry wall.
Dave and Bill,

It's honking today, and winds of 90+ mph are expected. You boys are sure gonna miss out on some good lootin............
You best get out there and hold on to them walls so they don't blow over!! Second thought, never mind... let em go, next time Chuck can isntall the studs right... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Hey guys how come you're sheathing it in CDX rather than OSB? I'm finishing a spec house that I sheathed in CDX as well only cause I got a deal on CDX for $15.50 per sheet. Also only doing Tyvek around doors and windows as the engineer tells me they are finding wallrot on houses that have been wrapped completely with Tyvek. Makes some sense since you have vapor barrier on the other side of the insulation. I'd heed Art's advice on the plywood on all interior walls of the trophy room. Looking good though.
We remain ignorant of the techniques...and have no idea why or what, when it comes to your questions....

I guess we'll have to ask the builder when we get home!

Thanks, it's kind of nice to see it developing...can't wait to see it in person...
Here in Oregon (especially the rainy west side) the builders seal up the houses with Tyvek as soon as they can. The photos of that house look pretty soggy. How do you get the houses dried out prior to sealing them up to avoid the "killer mold," and mildew? Never been to AK (going next year) but all the photos I've seen look overcast or worse. Just curious.

TK2
Well at least you have good looking lumber! It's been tough sledding trying to find decent lumber this year, everything is rough as hell or crooked or split, heck sometimes you get the trifecta and get all three in one board. Bought some studs at Spenards, needed a few more and Home Depot was closer so picked up there. Not even the same dimensionally. Do you guys know where your lumber came from? I may build a duplex and a new house for us next year and am seriously considering flying outside to truck some up (know a local builder that does so). But if I can find your source I might be able to stay here.

Chime in too Joel where they getting all that good looking lumber.
Finally made it home today to check on the progress in person... only to find MB and a few of the other fellows hard at work. Hell, they even convinced Brother Dave and I to put down our beers for a minute to help raise an upper floor wall!

Can't quite tell from the photos-- do all the headers meet building code and what code are you building under?? Just curious.
Jeff
Code! What code? If they wanted it built a certain way, they should say so in plain English and not be hinting at stuff in code form! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
Looking good!!!! The pole going on the beach side, in that section with the slider? That'd be a hell of a spot, watching the show with the bay in the background <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! Spring Fling, here I come!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Hey with all the Alaska folks I met last spring in Austin TX at an ICC inspectors CEU class I figured the whole state was under code somehow.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Wish I could see the headers at a different angle, something looks strange-- I can't quite place my finger on it though-- looks well built and solid but strange. Maybe the way it ties to 2x6 walls that we don't have in TX but should have to keep the friggin heat out.

Jeff
I can't comment on building codes, but from my experience with the fire codes, there is a big discrepency between what codes have been adopted by the state, and how well those codes are enforced by the state. Lets just say there simply aren't enough inspectors to go around, especially those parts where getting around is time consuming and spendy.

Which isn't to say there is any problem with the bros house, just an asside to the question about codes.
The house is starting to take shape and it's looking good from the pictures. Looks like it's going to be pretty big.

What type of heating system you guys going with?

HoundGirl
i think what you're seeing is a 2 x 6 turned flat and nailed to the header from the under side. looks great.
Could be on the flat one. Its a shame I was not an inspector in 95 when we honeymooned in AK. It was the first time I'd seen 2x6 construction in walls. Yet I didn't pay much attention. Just looks interesting to me.

Jeff

B,
So when is the projected Grand Opening of the "Brothers Brothel"? I have a feeling it may be worth the trip! Looking good guys..

Jay
J,
We are figuring a little get-together in June is likely, though we hope to move in as soon as there's a [bleep] and a shower...possibly January.

There will be a series of house warmings, each aimed at a different audience. For example, the one you'll want to attend isn't likely to be the same one our folks fly up for....<grin>.
By the way, you get extra points for the Brother's Brothel term....
Just finished off a bottle of Vodka and the rest of this thread. Pretty funny....Elf, looks like we could put you to work!

To answer some of the questions... as far as heat, we're putting in those tubes that circulate hot water around the floor.

As for codes...I know there are some inspections lined up, but since we're outside any city, and i'm not even sure if we're in a borough, and there are no property taxes...I couldn't even guess at what codes apply.

Tomorrow Uncle Jim, the Brothers, and Uncle Tom head out for a week of Elk hunting down in Southeast Alaska...if the weather cooperates. There are closer elk nearby, but the Uncles drew two tags for an island in Southeast, so we're headed there to see what happens.

More to come...
M, you is funny....<grin>
Didn't know we were keepin' score. Thanks for spottin' me a few points... Now your gonna have to pull off an Upset. I already have the Bar and Pole..

You guys are livin' the life..

Jay
Here's my Bar in progress... You guys are welcome to belly-up anytime...

David,
Whats being used for mass in the upstiars heat system?
Do the tubes lay between sleepers on the floor...
or are they on the bottom of the sub-floor?(ceiling of basement)

Lookin' good!
You guys are planning on holding "mass" upstairs!?!!! Man, I thought I'd read everything until this new bit of information.
ROTFLMAO!!<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Paul, my guess is they plan to have a few of the "faithfull" on their knees to receive their offerings and blessings.............whether that constitutes mass is a whole nuther gig! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> twas good Big Sky
NICE!!!!!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
You boys are all white trash..........(grin)

Just looking at those stairs is making my back hurt.
Most of the lumber is from canada. I'm not sure what company. The local stuff is junk, and the price is through the roof. The company I work for has it all barged in.................
The lumber seems to have a doug-fir look about it.
Tis a redder hue than it tis here.
Joel I noticed you guys wrapped the whole thing in Tyvek. Just curious and it was hard for me to not do it, but based on our engineer we only wrapped the doors and windows.

Some people claim that Tyvek breathes, but I know folks that use it for groundcloth on wet ground and they wouldn't if it was breathing that water back at them. So visqueen on the inside with acoustical sealant, Tyvek on the outside, where does the water go, specially as wet as that lumber got?
Randy
Big difference between breathing and letting droplets through. The ideal is to get the place dried in and get enough heat to dry it below 12-15%MC everywhere before hanging the vapor barrier inside.

You are correct though because the water has to vaporize before it can find a hole to leave through and this is not a great time of year to vaporize water in SE. The air is already hitting 100%RH every day! And seldom dropping below it.

And lighting salamanders in there will only put more water in the air...

Impressive view. Where is the hot tub you mentioned? Is there really going to be a stripper pole? You boys are full of it, I swear!!

HoundGirl
The hot tub goes on a landing over the water.

You'll see...
The young man just bought a hot tub and called his girlfriend and asked her to come over and try it out.
"What did you fill it with?" she asked.
"Water, of course, why?" he replied.
"Because I heard milk is the most sentual thing you can put in a hot tub." she said.
"You mean like pasturized?"
"No, up to my tits would be deep enough."

Won't be there til the 9th... brother Dave and Uncle Jim will be there on Wed. Need me to do some shopping in the big city?

What's the word on the Love Shack? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Haven't seen any update's in a few days...
I'll try and take some pics today....
Hey Thanks.Your a good guy no matter what your friends say <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
I'd not want to know what my friends say....<grin>

Chartered a helicopter yesterday for a couple hours to try for an aerial shot...had a quick break in the weather and managed a pic...

Here's the latest......yes, I know our neighbor is too close...!

Thats all...
Great View from above...Next time I ask for a picture update just take me up in the helicopter with you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
The house is begining to shape up real well. How much longer before you can think about being in it? Guess when I'm visiting Martha I might have to take a side trip to take a tour. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Not to worry...they'll be moving soon enough!
Anyone know where a guy can get glow in the dark skeet for those midnight trap sessions off the front porch?
Don't know about glow in the dark clays, but if you're stopping by the big city, swing in to costco and pick up one of the 15 mil candle power rechargable flashlights in the auto section, they're only $30! We were fiddling with one on the boat ride over to Montague, and it's a most impressive unit, could light stuff up miles away.

I'll have to forward you boys a video of my method of depresurizing 1# propane cans to make them "safe" for travel <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> hint, the full cans tend to blow out the iginition source, but 1/2 full ones are pretty cool <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Paul--is that missing a decimal point?? I've got a 1 meg in my truck, for safety purposes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> but 15??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

I guess it'd have to be rechargeable. Plugging into a cig lighter in the truck might stall the engine! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Not a typo! I only regret not adding one to the shopping cart, will have to correct that next time through, and hopefully they still have some.

The captain was insistant we had that thing pointing out of the pilothouse when we lit it off <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

We were lighting up the navagation reflector on the North end of Culross island when we were about 4 miles away from it with it, during a light snow.

I'm gonna put in a request, for one of those lights...a friend is coming out to hunt in a week or so and I'll make sure he brings one...
I heard on the news that the use of such illumination is receiving close scrutiny in Paradise. Waddaya hear there?

I just got back from Costco to get my wife a birthday cake and some flowers, decided to pick up a flashlight for myself <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...Cpod0023486.jsp

Seems most places are charging $60-70 for these badboys, I couldn't pass up the $31 and change. Can't wait to charge this sucker up. The neighbor behind us complains he can't sleep when we leaver the 60W porchlight on in the back of the house. Can't wait to light up the yard so the kids can sled in the dark <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Please don't point that thing south....... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
Yeehaw, we gonna be running the shallow rivers at night now!

1 million just gets sucked into the black hole, but 15 look out, it's gonna be cruising time.
I think you might actually boil the water with that sucker.

Mac
Paul, I've got two of those enroute to Paradise now..thanks for the tip...
Brothers, here are a couple of late entries for the name of your new digs. "Manland" or " The Mens Crisis Center". Steve
Huh? I thought all along it was "Paradise Home for Unwanted Concubines and Kinky Playmate Pets" But I hear they are just going to use an acronym, no clue what it will be! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

nice digs.
Holy Moly..these lamps warrant a post unto themselves....watch for one in the near future...I've two in hand at the moment, and I'm gonna light [bleep] up tomorrow.....
I came back from cubscouts with the boys last night, and as I rounded the street a few houses up I saw some weird flashes and thought perhaps there was some heavy equipment backing around the court across the street from us, nope, twas my daughter playing with the spotlight. She even was kind enough to great me by shining it in my eyes.

The boys call it a lightsaber, one that's about a mile long. I figure it's only a matter of time before we get complaints from one of the neighbors.

Just don't point it at low flying aircraft shocked

Oh, THAT is one FINE view! Okay....you NEED a REALLY good decor person!!! You need someone that can make that place SCREAM "cool". I am not cheap, mind you, but I have been known to make chicken salad out of chicken [bleep]....you should see what I can do with a 100.00 paper backs (see pics of my own flat) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!

Nice to see it coming along for you....hope you are having a nice Holiday with your family.....too bad November weren't eternity....except with better luck...eh??? LOL...

Good progress being made--coming along nicely. Are you putting in a free-standing fireplace or wood stove?

Send the "wet" pictures to FEMA..they might be worth a few bucks ($)!

I really don't know. Perhaps listening to GOOD country and western would allow better songs to come through. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
222
222- you mean the act that sings about "Bang in your ying-yang" isn't the pinnacle? While it may not be good c&w music, the lyrics to Save a Horse are awfully fitting for the owners of the "Love Shack!" Right down to buying the bar a double round of Crown! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Looks like the place is coming together nicely.
It's coming along slowly...wish things would pick up a bit....

Houndgirl, I don't even know what decor means...<grin>

But I will agree...I wish November rut lasted forever....
Sorry man, I've always changed the station before I could learn the lyrics. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I'm very unimpressed with the direction that C&W has headed in the last several years. There are still a few good acts out there, but they're outnumbered. Don't take this as a personal flame, I'm just venting one of my frustrations about the world changing around me.
222
Nice "Huntin' Shack" you got there David.

Is it too late for a time share?

My boss is just startin' his retirement place in Hollis near the IFA terminal. He's been trying to talk us into working for a week for a hunting time share.

I know I'd get screwed. "Any week in Jan or Feb is yours" he'd say.

MM
Snapped a few photos today whilst at the house. Nothing too big to report, other than some siding and some windows. Some of the doors arrived today and they will be setting the cedar logs for the covered front porch tomorrow...

I'm waaaay glad we made the last minute change, and placed two more windows above the end wall... it lets in lots of sunlight in the late afternoon.....

[Linked Image]
As an aside.. you might notice the lack of cloud cover... Not bad fer November....
I like the metal roofing. I need to have the roof redone one of these days, and was thinking metal was the way to go.
This new stuff that hides the screws is nice and clean looking... even if we weren't using the roof runoff as our water source I'd go with metal.... IMO it looks better than asphalt shingles....
Now all you need is a widow's walk to get rid of excess beer!
art
Hey Bill or Dave are you guys gonna have snowhooks put on the roof? Or is there enough snow there to even worry about it? I built a 24x32 log cabin with metal roof and after last spring decided it needed snowguards!

House looks good guys .

I know what you mean about moving slow, I'm laying floor in the little spec home I'm building, I'm sick of seeing the place.
I'm not exactly sure what the snow hooks are... but there is a strip of sheet metal on the main roof, just above the edge that I believe is to keep snow from sliding off. They just haven't installed it over the trophy room yet... we get a couple of inches accumulation every once in a while, but its enough to warrant having them....
Ahhh I see them now, twas a better shot of the trophy room so I didn't peruse the main roof as closely as I should have.

You'll be glad you have them, if just a couple of inches of accumulation is all you get. I'm having to do 3-4 rows of them across the roof for the heavier snow loads we get. Big load of snow with ice on the bottom is an impressive sight when it turns loose, RIGHT NOW, on a pretty spring day.

Let me know if you're gonna be in Fairbanks again, I'll buy you a beer. Last time you were gone by the time I read the post you had even been here.
Looking good...where is the Bar-b-que pit going to go?
Lookin real good!
Thats a huge place.
Nice to see new pics...I'm hoping you're out hunting today? Being at work sucks...

TLFW, we're gonna need the smoker hookup before spring!

It is starting to look like a good sized place...
ohhhhh...i took a picture today of a vacuum packer.
I'm road hunting today.Took some meat to have ground into sausage...Missed my trophy last week-end.The scenario plays through my mind several times daily, and again at bedtime.
[img][image]http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/Jed1899/vacuum.jpg[/img][/image]

oh.... THAT kind of vacuum packer... that thing is sweet!

Dude..that is funny.

Those last pictures look pretty good....Brother Bill, did you stain the inside window frames yet?
Swung by the house today.... just in time to see them set the second cedar pole outside the house. These will be the corner posts for the covered front porch.... Am thinkin tomorrow they'll be settin some roof joists atop. Should change the look of the house dramatically when done.....

That top layer of Typar is upside down. Must been the Preachers work. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
He does decent work when he's sober...
I'm liking the way those look....

Glad you're not working on the house...this way I don't feel bad about not doing anything there the whole time I was home...
Swung by the house on the way in from the woods today.... tis pretty damn impressive when you walk up to it.....

Looks like we need some plans to dress that up nicely....big stairs, lighting, etc...

Looks kickass....
At least them boys are at work every time I see a pic.....<grin>
You mentioned runoff as a water source. Is there no county/city water or option of a drilled well?

Mike
No city water option there, and there's solid rock just a few feet down so we were advised that a well wasn't an option.....
Quote
Looks like we need some plans to dress that up nicely....big stairs, lighting, etc...

Okay....it is really starting to look like a nice flat....you need prefered "lighting" with a lot of direction...and lots of interior color (dark reds and dark greens to accent the lighter wood) will make it rock a'bobawab south! What are you sportin', as far as an entry goes??? BTW, is the main fireplace solid rock? Details, man <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!!!

ETA: Oooops...just realized you were refering to the OUTSIDE....let me know when you need advice on "chick friendly" INTERIOR decor <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!!!!

The fireplace will be gas, though it'll be surrrounded by rock....if that's what you mean...?

Chick friendly interior means lots of mirrors around the stripper pole?

Looks like there's lots of room to hang deer, under the overhang out front....

All that stripper talk had my mind wandering... thanks for the clarification.
I don't believe, for a second, that there will be "stripper poles" in that house <shakes head>! You are both so full of [bleep] that it is surprising the two of you can see to use the keyboard <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!

BTW- trust me on the dark reds and greens....with directed lighting (accented with light brown leather and wood).....I do color in my sleep....and I am GOOD....maybe I need a change in careers, eh <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! Nah, WAY too much fun getting paid to look at critters in the field <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />....even if it doesn't pay all the bills <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!

I believe it has something to do with the color of the ceilings in the bedroom. For some reason, women find that interesting. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

HG, the hot tub is at the bottom of a loooong prioritized list of things to get done.

Never fear, it'll be in place when you get here. Prior to that, however, there's a million hassles to deal with and it ain't fun at the moment.

with the speed of the internet connection here, the pics will be uploaded in about a week.............
These are the pics of the infamous deck... I didn't take as many as i would have liked, and it's snowing to hard to drive back out there for more pics. Keep in mind that this is the UPPER level. That means that their is a lower level... It's freakin' cool, and the brothers scored some good wood for this deck.
[Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
I do not envy you guys for needing to maintain that cedar deck but it sure looks sweet now.
Thanks for posting the pics, dude...!

Looks good, though I already wish it was bigger.

'Bout time for the first BBQ!
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />OMGOSH!!!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL.....what is her name????

HoundGirl
Well I see that you had the railing designed to keep Big Stick from falling off the deck, but what about you taller boys? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Or did you figure you won't be in an upright position that much? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Anyway, great looking place, I would not mind living there at all.
Ooops....nice deck, as well :-).

Oh sure, now you start pulling out the bait to pull in HG, I ain't got a dog, so I am out of luck.

M is the secret weapon............

This pic looks cool....can you re-load it to photobucket..?
Are those Milgard Windows? Those are made here in town, (Hollister) I didn't know they were sold ouside of our area.

They have a very good reputation.

You guys have done a great job.
Yep, they're Milgard...shoulda had you bring 'em up...<grin>
It looks great..I was just wondering if there was going to be an update soon.

BTW great looking Dogs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Master B- both dogs are beauties <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />........

I got to ask for clarification, that isn't really a hunting shack, right? I mean somebody has this as their primary residence right?

If not, that has to be the nicest hunting "shack" I have ever seen.

Well if that don't do it, I guess it just aint gonna happen.
Is that the banker sulking on the deck and pulling his hair out? It's pretty high up...just make a dog run with some harnesses for your friends, you'll just hang up your shotgun on the rail shooting skeet. I think Stick is tough enough to be allowed to roam freely, 20 foot fall would probably be like going to the Chiropractor for him.
Man O' Man -

Life sure won't suck to Bar-B-Que off that deck...except for the view. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

What's the best way to seal/protect the cedar decking and siding...anyone know?
David,

I used to really like the Behr Rawhide products for the cedar siding on our house with southern exposure. But they have changed the frigging formula due to government regs!

I bought up the last of the 5 gallon cans SBS had here a few years ago.

I'd take a look at the Superdeck products I guess, Rivers Woods sells it here and the guy that runs the place is long on quality and value and I trust them. It's what they carry.

BTW, place looks great, let us know if any HG's spring the trap! (grin)
Randy
Was NOT Gov regs that shut down Behr RAwhide. It was their application schedule. If they had kept the product it would have folded them. They were suggesting several coats too many and the result was a plasticized house with water underneath.

When the water boiled its way out on hot days it took a lot out of the finish and when trapped in the wood after the cracking it turned black. If you put the stuff on and did not follow their directions you will be alright. It is not bad product.
art
Thanks Art, evidently got some bad info when I "asked SBS" (grin)

Chit! There was directions with the stuff??????? Who'd a thunk it?
I've got a question for you Alaskan's - the Hunting Shack and other's in the pic's are covered in wood siding, but why? It looks like with all the rain up there brick or aluminum siding, or something else would be a better choice.
You have to remember they are in the backwoods.
They are not up on the latest technological changes in building materials. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Dave
Go with Superdeck products. I had to sand all that rawhide off a 2800 SQ. FT. log home after black mold started to grow under the coating. I applied superdeck stain when I was done and that was five years ago. It still looks like new.
Cedar is the ONLY way to go in Paradise....

Seakins (sp?) is expensive, but is what is used for most cedar applications up here. Dave, we might have a deck painting party when you get up here, if the weather permits.

I've recently retired from the construction industry, and living a life of luxury in a full-time position in paradise that is more friendly to my hunting and fishing addiction...........
I hope your retirement schedule allows you to moonlight as a deck stainer and rock hanger...?
jds, we went with what looks good, not necessarily what's best for the long run.

Kinda like my criteria for chicks...

What's the best way to seal/protect the cedar decking and siding...anyone know?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ya, bring a few up us up there to hunt, and let us do it.
The best stuff I've found for my red cedar deck is made by Olympic. It's a premium deck stain (tinted or clear) with a 2-yr warranty. It definately lasts 2+ years and that's saying something. Most of the crap with a 1 yr warranty won't even last that.

MM
What's the best way to seal/protect the cedar decking and siding...anyone know?

Depends on how much you want to spend and how long you want it to last.

For real serious money but a permanent solution, you can use a penatrating epoxy.

Do a Gooogle search for Smith's penetrating epoxy. Otherwise known as CPES.

It's widely used in the wood boat world and I have used it also.

Hard to tell if it's worth it for a deck though....

David,

Looking at the aerial pic it appears that you are close to the mouth of a creek, Eh? The orientation of the boat and the current flow seem too much for a tidal influence.

Great shots.

best,
bhtr
Actually, it's tide. If you imagine a big cove, with the open end choked by an island...all the current passes through a channel on each side of the island, one of which is right in front of the house.

At tide change, the water boils through like rapids...looks like a river from the air.

The photo above was taken near the peak of high tide, so the water movement was fairly minimal, comparatively.
as some of the local bretheren would say "phat crib yo!"
Sir, I have been following this thread from the begining and have really enjoyed it. I must say that I am insanely jealous and the pictures are great. What does a place like that cost land and all if you dont mind saying? PM me if you would prefer.
Beautiful

I'm guessing there are alot of child support payments tied up there...
We had a near 24' combined tide, the other day. I tried to video both extremes,to illustrate the magnitude.

Turned out pretty good.

Tried any Steelheading yet?................
No fishing yet, helped The Pimp swap boat batteries today, and helped his friend Jim pour footings for his new place. Gonna steal The Boy from school tomorrow and get him into some metalheads.

Looks great. Which rooms are those that have the view (the ones in the pics...with access to the deck)?

HoundGirl
My room, Family room, and one of the spare bedrooms have the view...on the downstairs, though the spare room doesn't have deck access. Four sets of french doors were all we could afford. Dining room and Sitting room upstairs have access to the deck, and a view. Don't ask me why the Family and Sitting rooms are named so, it was on the plans...
Coming along nicely I'd say. Can't wait to see it in person! Nov...what?

Check your PM's - got boat info for you.
You can put your tent on the deck...<grin>
Could'a sworn I saw a camper in the background on the overflight - what's the rent on that?
I was wondering about the weekly rate for that spare bedroom with the view<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Stick,

If you get the opportunity, I for one would like to see those pics. I'm accustomed to large tidal swings...but the difference here is so much flat ground! (Even one in Alaska could be considered a "flatlander," eh? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />)

David,

South of us on the lower peninsula are a couple of places that have a narrows that really rock and roll! The narrow channel seperating Tutka lagoon from Tutka bay really rocks when the tide is going out! Now that I think about it, the scenery there mimicks those in your pics...other than of course, the swell batchl'r pad is missin' <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Wull, gee paw - one thing I learned from you is...I'm ain't rich enough to buy junk! I think it will do the trick nicely. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Now finish the shack, we got some serious team building to do!
Slayer - first booking is black bear hunting this spring. Weren't you going to buy a new rifle to try out in PWS?
I bet Dave is thinking he ain't rich enough to have a hunting shack right about now. Grin

If he'd charge for some of those trips ( other than the liquid currency!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />) He might be able to get that Hot tub houndgirl is always talking about!
Did a walk-through with the electricians tonight....should have seen the look on them good ol' boys faces when I told 'em they had 4000 feet of A/V wiring to run in the walls. They've never even heard of such a thing. Mind you, they're all pretty good at wiring a house, there's just never been much call for A/V diagrams in the Indian Village.

Their comments ranged from calling the A/V centers "mission control", to saying space shuttles have less cables.

One guy laughingly told me the house will never blow down in the wind, with "that web of wires" spun through the walls.

Life in a small town...
Re-reading that post gives me the impression that I came across a little snobbish. That wasn't the intent. Just found it funny that what's common place in bigger cities seems outlandish to folks here sometimes.

They might get the last laugh after all....when the house is half finished and Brother Bill and I are broke........<grin>

Man what weather! Hard to beat, hope it stays this way.

Oh, the door knob is on the wrong door. Or is that just me? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I can only guess Master Bonzai worked on that part.
BW - Nope, your right it's on the wrong side (at least by New England standards <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ) Hope no one pushes one of those studs leaning on the porch through that nice glass! Really does look good though! CEJ..
I have no idea what current door knob protocol is, and the same could be said for quite a few house building details we've been forced to iron out in this process...<grin>

Other side of the house, and the boat launch..

A fella might could get tipsy and tumble down riprap to the boat ramp... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
It's definitely a Use At Your Own Risk type of place...<grin>
The builder remarked more than once today, in different locations, "a guy could get hurt on this, if he was tipsy..."

I assured him we don't go for that sort of foolishness.

Pretty sure he knows better though....
The door knob will be on the proper side when you are leaving...
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
LOL....true....

The door on the right hand side, in the picture, is lined up with the stairway...so the door on the left is the default entrance.

Door knobs aside, what I don't get is the strip down the center of the two doors isn't the same color as the doors themselves....not sure how that worked out.
It's called "trim" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Ah, a term I've lost my familiarity with....sorry to say...<grin>
I can understand having the tricky opening on the inbound side as "guests" will no doubt be escourted in, but likely have to find their own way out.............
That's a nice looking door. What is left to do in the interior? Do you fellers have an approximate move-in date?
There's no door knob on the inside...can't have the chicks escaping....
The can lights and outlets are wired on the interior...other than that, still bare studs. Progress is slow, and painful.....

A May 1 move-in is probably optimistic, but we'll see....

Too funny....

She never took the bait, and I owe someone here a bottle of Crown over it...
I guess she's tougher than we think...
Maybe the cold weather has made them (her) sluggish...

I've heard small baits fished slow can sometimes prevail in these conditions...
Downsizing the bait would require surgery....

I suppose I could vary my retrieve. Patience, after all, is supposed to be a fisherman's virtue.
Well, if things don't pan out, you could still just claim that they did..........

Sitka,

I'd guess that with "Paradise experienced" building inspectors present, it's long since been code there to mandate a "handicap ramp." Just for the "light-weight drinkers/visitors of course! Paradise residents (and this of legend) would never have a "navigation" problem and thus, could enjoy a variance of same...riprap not withstanding! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

best,
bhtr
Do not know that general approval for your statements could be found in Paradise. I understand they send out specially trained boats and crews hunting the elusive tidal nugget. Not much of a stretch to hunt beached nuggets as they tend to be easier to locate, though harder on the pursuit boats...

As you point out, they regularly look for the variances in life in general, riprap in particular... I see trouble in Paradise... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'm aware that certain compromises must be made, when a chick moves in. Also, HG's point is valid...when a female is a resident.

That said, if there's any shrubbery in the head, it won't be MY doing....<grin>
Stainless steel fixtures, shop towels and Lava soap are all a man needs for daily hygiene duties....NO fluffy stuff in a mans chitter......... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Add a few Cabela's catalogs scattered around, and you've got it...<grin>

Too funny...
Sheeesh...! Is that place done yet! Nice BBQ Bill - helluva barge bill for that one!
That is one nice place with a great view. I was showing it to a friend of mine today who does carpentry and he couldn't get over how thick the roof was.
Dave, I found a young blonde in training for the Pole. By the time you get the shack built she will be ready.
Pole Dancer <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Heh...that's a blonde alright....<grin>

Ken, which pic of the roof struck him as unusual?
The roof over the main part of the house looks to be twice as thick as the smaller section on the left side. Is this done due to snow pack or for a better RF factor?
Oh, oh, oh......I loooooooooooooove your idea of a pole dancer <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!! She is a BEAUTY, woot...woooooot!!

David- You get yourself one of those girls...and you got it MADE in the SHADE <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />!!! I meant YOUR on company time...tooo mujch sake!
Yeah...you could say that I am soft on fur.....just a TAD bit <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!!!

HoundGirl
Ken...I have no idea what the details of the roof are, though I'll ask out of curiousity....

Others: WTF is woot?
dunno, rymes with poot.
Just cuz "moped" flew rooster over my head....and you were kind enough to elaborate....

"Woot" is like "wooohooooo".....something you would smile about....sort of like a grin with a small grunt and jump of excitement....but since you rarely smile in any of your pics.....you might struggle with a "woot" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!!

Woot <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />....

Bill, David, and the Captain formerly known as Master Bonzi- may your hands be filled with Kimbers at Dawn as you head Offshore for Adventures! Here's hoping you get the "shack" ready soon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Only from the main roof....

Bet it's good to be home....glad you had a safe trip...

HoundGirl
Thanks, it is starting to look like a home. I can already feel the pain of furnishing and decorating the place.

It's good to be home...despite the atomic hangover I woke up with....
We had a good conversation last night, remember it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You bought my lil'boat, and wouldn't pay less than $35,000. Dude, your alright. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I'm figuring any critters they have won't be roaming around the pad. More likely stationary and staring off into space wondering why me?

Looking good Dave. Is your grill gonna be the main focal point of that room. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Mac
The grill is gonna be out on the deck, hard-plumbed to the propane tank...the deck is my favorite part of the house...<grin>

BW, I remember the conversation, but not much after....lol. I do recall you offering the hull only, for $15k!!
Soooooooo laffin' here!

I got the late night "WoooHooooooo" call and the early AM "[bleep] Fishing" call, with nearly equal enthusiasm.

BT/DT......................
Yeah, I was the Big Winner....for sure...
I'm really amazed at the progress made, since the last time I was home.

The boys have the ball rolling......................
I did better,the other night.

Whipped 3-guys on the crew and run 'em off the job at daybreak.

The Dark Side remains a force to be reckoned with......................(grin)
That's my favorite story at the moment, and I regret not being there to see it...

Life in camp doesn't sound dull....
I done the crew proud,if only by accident.(grin)

Camp is always a hoot, due to the diversity in personalities and I guess that lifestyle is sorta ingrained in me.

Azzholes never last long, for one reason or another and few lament those conclusions...............................
I'd like to have seen the azz whippin occur...did you make 'em get in a line or just work 'em all over at once? You need a helmet cam on your hard hat!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
It was a free for all, which is typical of how such things go.

Just got in from a tour of The Shack, after our uneventful Steelhead foray. Things have really come along and it's gonna be an amazing sumbitch.

The dumb bastards really did some thinkin' and it is very well thought out,IMHO.

Impressive....................
Looks like it's happening... If all goes well, I'll not get to spend one night in it but will be on a mountain side under a tarp. Can't quite read if I have sold brother Dave on the white beard pursuit???? I did take the new Kimber purchase as a sign though.
They're swamped doing house stuff today, but I'm hoping that after the morning's fish trip,we'll get the WSM's to the range.

How does your's shoot? Can you kiss lands and fit within the mag box?

Miss toting the Weatherby?...............(grin)
The Weatherby is not missed...Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet...I was a touch on the busy side on my one week off. I did take your advice and go to the 168 TSX which was hard for me to break the 180 trend I've been in for years. I do have high expectaions and she is fully ready for a test drive with turret and 50 rounds of moly coated 168 TSX's. It will be the GOTO rifle once the tuning is complete.
Looks like we'll all be flinging the same load, for Critters.

You driving 168A-Max for play,also?.......................
I've got my new Mark 4 mounted up on the latest Kimber...200 pieces of brass, 100 168tsx's, and 100 moly'd A-max 168's in a pile.

Once I get time to load up, there's gonna be some gunsmoke.....
I want to perfect the master load with the TSX as top priority. Then I'll try the A-Max's out. Do they shoot much different? I was shooting 55 Gr V-Max in my AR, then tried some FMJ's of the same weight and they shot about 4 inches different at 100 yards?
I don't have room in my low-volume cranium at the moment, to get bogged down in the details.....but I'm game for an October goat trip...
Every barrel is an individual.

Worst case scenario,is denoting a slight turret correction, betwixt loads.......................
Set me a container of eggs out....................(grin)
Thanks for the reminder, I'll see what Katie's expression looks like this evening....when I tell her to take the moose steaks out, and they're sitting atop a quart of roe.....
Just gained another day of play. I can fly out late monday and meet my Canoe ride in time.

Where are we going in the morning? One of the secret holes,or something more mainstream?

The water level is gonna be a bitch, but a guy should try........................
I believe the #1 secret spot is due for a few casts....
Right on.

Good call........................
Your makin me jealous!
Are you goin with eggs or small stuff for the low and clear conditions?
Nothin' beats a glob of eggs...that's the way Mother Nature intended it to be, who am I to argue......? <grin>
Might have to go weightless,to fend the conditions, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make...............(grin)
Stick better make sure you have Vodka tonight iffin your gonna make the wake up call! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Weightless, how about pantless...you're about due to update the legendary campfire photo with fresh a new look for 2006.
Am thinking tomorrow night is the big woohoo shindig.

Fresh Halibut, fresh King, fresh Steelhead and a fresh jug. I can think of 4 birthdays that need celebratin'.

If only it would pour rain all night...........................
I've been tanning and you'll be impressed..................(grin)
Did you ever cut enough trees down to afford the penis reduction? I'm still saving up for mine!!!
Sprung for the testicle reduction,am considering flute reduction next............................
That sounds like a good spread...If a guy was to sink a crab pot in Paradise...would it yield favorable results?
All you could stand..................
One of brother Dave's Uncles once gave me a King Crab education not too far away...damn near flipped the boat over with the mega pot used. He wasn't a big fan of others checking his gear. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
IMHO,the trick is to get offa the beaten path and don't let them soak for too long.

Some guys don't use a buoy and run a line to shore,in stealth mode........................
Kings or dungees?
Both can be found.

Boys are here and Bob Smirnoff has a new flavor out.

We's taste testin'..................(grin)
Wish I was in the sewing cirlce, sippin your newest flavor wine cooler and eating some of Alaskas finest fare...
Has Dave shot the Kimber yet??? I beat him to the purchase but don't think I'll win on the first to drive theirs around the block. Heres what you boys made me do...

We were TRYING to watch a video by Larry Bartlett("Float Hunting Alaska") and it's the biggest damned joke any of us have seen.

Consensus was to videotape sighting in Dave's Whizzum, upon said DVD at 250yds.

Everyone bailed,before it was over.........................
Careful Stick, I've seen him touted repeatedly as the guru of float...

Yeah, I agree with you guys...
He's the guru of blowing smoke up one's ass.

A clueless goon,would be a considerate description...................
Looks like Brokeback Float Trip to me......I'm guessing they were playing tummy sticks in the tent at night....

Hey Larry.....nice hat...
Wow....I'm half in the bag and just lit into a moose steak....life could be worse...
His hat do have to go.

I see someone stashed more Bob's in the fridge,I guess it'd be rude of me to not indulge?

I best get more Moose outta the freezer,it do eat well...................
Yeah, Bob's doin' us right.....

Who's gonna be the Big Winner tomorrow night.....?
Am thinking Joel will retain his Title.....................
The King Salmon got away, but the halibut is still intact.

I'm going out today to fill the boat up with herring. I'm armed with a castnet and a few herring set-ups on fishing poles.

Try not to destroy the steelhead fishery in one day.
We Pow-Wow'd this morning on the phone and sorta admitted to ourselve's that the water is simply too low. With the Bait Opener and being Saturday to boot,it prolly wasn't a poor move to bow out.

When you going Herring catching?........................
probibly around tenish. The tide will be flooding then and their will be enough water to launch the boat.

yesterday i went to the ramp at 8, and it was out of the water. Minus tides, but it floods very fast.

Talked to a couple of pounders, and they say the herring are in. Also ran into a gent at the boat ramp who had a cooler full of herring he jigged.

I've always had a blast with the cast net, and the herring makes such good skate/crab bait.
Forgot about the tides,Momma went to work early(yesterday),to beachcomb.

The Pimp called me on the Bat Phone and says his Halibut is in your hands. Might wanna get it to him,so his Wife can get it breaded for the pending feast.

Sister will be unhappy,if there is Halibut Technical Difficulties.(grin)

She'd eat it every meal, every day...................
Do tell Stick that is said to be BIG.

Anyone who can claim that a movie sucks without finishing it is one intellectual MOFO.

Let me guess....not enough killing for you and the bruits? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> Or does my hat intimidate your inferior masculinity? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Popcorn! Peanuts! Beer!
Save me a seat Art....extra butter please.
I can tell when a movie sucks,by it's content, film work and players. Especially easy to do so,when something that is vaunted to be "informative" and in which the subject matter happens to ring a familiar bell.

Now... perhaps unlike some, when it's 5 degrees ambient, I don't gotta jump in the water until I'm blue, to ascertain a relative comfort rating geared to those specific conditions.

Along similar lines, I don't need to be glued to my TV for a 114 minute onslaught, to my very good senses, to derive a two-thumbs down rating to the phoniest flick to ever escape the editing room.

"Bruits" is pelled b.r.u.t.e.s and it's glaringly painful ineptidue of that Kindergarten magnitude, that made the DVD a sham of the first degree.

As to the hat, it did make your tits look bigger, but mebbe that was the production value sought?!!?

It was embarrassing on many levels, to suffer through the time I did and the only glimmer of hope I can get out of it, is you're a DSMFer playing Alaskan.................
Speaking of flavors of stuff, I've found Captain Morgan's private stock to make a darn fine buttered rum. I had the crud the past week and darn if a buttered rum don't make one feel all better. Mixes well with hot coco as well.

To the movie review, an analogy would be in order. One need not eat a whole serving of chit to figure out it smelled and tasted bad.
Ahhhhh....the power of analogy.

Just got off the horn with Spike and we were laughing and carrying on,talking of this and that. The topic of Bill's BBQ came up and I told Spike it was BIG. He wanted to know how big?

When I told him Oprah would fit inside, the message was loud and clear...................(grin)
Looks like we got robbed. Just a preview with no mention of the main attraction. Givin Stick's first volley, I reckon it was a good idea to abandon ship.

Yeah...I think Stick gets the two thumbs up!!! Though it would be nice to hear the other side of story <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Hey BIG Stick, nice try to bust my chops on spelling errors, but next time before opening your mouth you should try looking up the word in question: BRUIT sounds like BRUTE, but has a different meaning. You and your friends didn't like the flick so you went public with the news (i.e., bruits). I thought you were an intellectual, sorry I miss judged.

Our target audience for the Float Hunting Video was the Float Hunter who has much to learn about, who also happens to make the most mistakes with the simplist of tasks in preparation and execution of such adventure. Those mistakes end up in terrible misadventures or legal fines, which are avoidable.

This audience includes hunters who are familar with the concept of float hunting but have little idea of what to expect, which makes up nearly 80% of the statewide float hunter populous. You likely fall into the latter 20% group (guys who have it figured out), so now you have some thinking to do.

Did the video suck because I'm envious of larry and friends, or did bartlett miss the mark of his target goal to produce the first how-to video of its kind for a majority user group?

Either way, skip it, because your comments are only half-witted and overly egotistical. Forethought and courtesy go much farther than backdoor slander on a public forum. At least have the balls to match your stick!

I can be reached at http://www.pristineventures.com

My handle is Larry Bartlett, and I live the dream you never pursued. Don't hate me for it, brother. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Dude...

As a conscientious Consumer,I feel zero obligation to keep [bleep] goods veiled in secrecy. I view that stance,as being beyond fair and I appreciate reciprocation of same feedback, from others. Being hosed, gets old and it's handy when all do their part to fend the plague.

The video was so poorly done,as to rate mention in passing, due solely to the grandeur of the flop.

I've never met a man,who coulda learned anything from the video, other than whether or not his retail outlet would take such things back. I'd reckon the store that granted that, would rate patronage as a genuine token of appreciation.

As to being jealous,I can't fathom how that could ever be construed? 'Course,I never did impress easily. Missing the target goal by a wide margin,is being generous.

Backdoor slander isn't my MO,but reality is a place I do operate within,be it via text or otherwise. I'll leave the fluff and turd polishing for others,my interests there are none.

You flatter yourself to make a supposition that you rate an Email.

As to my being an Intellectual,I'm seldom accused of such a travesty.

Though as an aside,"bruit" do remain a verb, despite you're not using it in context. Lemme guess?!!? You've an English Tutorial awaiting video release?

I guess you're consistent.........................
Larry B doesn't seem overly thickskinned.
At times you'se a perceptive bastid! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Just curious, drunk or sober when you made that discovery? (grin)
I'm up on the wagon, and up on the slope...had forgotten to keep an eye on this thread....<grin>
Roger that, on the Thinskinned1....I also kinda like "simplist", and I haven't even seen the video !
I'm just sorry my tummy sticks comment didn't rate a response, as the term came from my favorite movie at the moment.

Stick gets all the fun.....
I hear you Dave, it's enough to make a feller want to shave his head and cut his pants legs off! (grin)
LOL...too funny...
This is some funny chit... Comin' from a bunch of DSMF's.
You lost me.....

I guess you liked the video? <grin>
Hell...he mighta been in the back of the raft?!!?

Beautiful blue skies here today. The kids and Big Momma are still racked out,so I'm the Easter Bunny. Will do the egg hiding thing, watch the fiasco and ease into the afternoon.

Water is stupid low,at both Hidey Holes. Nearest Hidey Hole rated pretty good action, but a guy had to get creative. Bill would have nightmares.(grin)

Hidey Hole two,had some Fly Swatter in there, wading out through the fish and all was blown out. I waited for him to leave and tried to make it work, until dark but could do no good. Tried to wade off the point, down by the Downtown Drift and fell through a false bottom while wading.

It felt boggy while walking and I punched through and gave thought to panic. Threw my rod to safety and swam/crawled outta the ordeal, was much concerned about my camera, which was in my backpack. All was well, excepting my pride. Mebbe the only day of my life,in which I didn't have a change of clothes in the rig. Had to wring out my panties, for the ride home,it was special. Was hauling ass home and was afeared a Trooper was gonna stop me and then tell all the others that I've a penchant for driving butt nekked.(grin)

Best tidbit of the day,was the follow up on a hole the two OldTimers mentioned to Bill and I the other day. It's the best drift I've seen and holds lotsa fish. It's what I now call the 20 Pounder Hole.

It's riddled with hangups,so Bill is gonna wanna drive his Flippin' stick and some fairly heavy line. I had the 10'6" baby Fenwick in there yesterday and got my ass handed to me,but man was it fun. Was going 30lb braid directly to a #3 Vibrax and was still getting used.(grin) I'll be driving my 8' 1pc Meat Stick Loomis and running 20lb snells,on my next trip.

When you boys get back down, you'll rate the tour and it oughtta be HOT...................
6 below here today, around -25 wind chill...not too bad, but that's about the best I can say of it...<grin>

Might have to hit Cabelas today and order up a dedicated Flippin' stick, similar to your 8-footer.

Sorry to hear Hidey Hole #2 had an occupant, I haven't been there yet when anyone else was.

On the good side, I heard through the grapevine that the squarehead FS cop I didn't get along with is now stationed in the deep south, Lower 48, so I was pleased to hear it.

Can't wait to get home, everything should be ON....and we need to get a plan, depending on your schedule....
Still laughing, how you boys humped him up,outta the gate.

Like your new neighbor............................(grin)
Now we're getting somewhere, Larry (aka, Big Stick). I respect your honesty a great deal and would like to appreciate your comments as a professional critique.

Where I was trained, anyone who has the intelligence to identify a negative must also exhibit the courage and aptitude to generate a positive solution to avoid the stigma of being all talk and no action. The world is filled with people that fit the latter category, but it requires more substance in a man to actually matter. This way, even if our efforts result in failure, we tried to matter. Otherwise, we don't!

Thanks for holding back how you really feel <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

All defensive positions aside, where might I find your portfolio of professional works? I'm impressed by your candor and would like to appreciate your influences and accomplishments.

Lastly, if you paid for the video we will gladly send you a refund if you'd return it to us. I'll even pick up the cost of return postage.

The address is Pristine Ventures, Inc. PO Box 83909 Fairbanks, AK 99708.

Thanks for the back and forth, Big.

Anxiously await a GS Productions ofthis years spring fling. Need more footage though.
I'm planning on doing my part. Just need to figure out how many bottles of Crown and Makers to bring. Whatever I decide, I'll double it, and hopefully not run out.
I ordered a stack of blank vid tapes, including HD format...

Am patiently awaiting apple's 17" version of the MacBook Pro...as a video editing platform....I understand the release will be sometime next week....

Ok, I guess I'm gonna have to look it up now.

Definition of Bruit

Bruit: A sound, especially an abnormal one. A bruit may be heard over an artery or vascular channel, reflecting turbulence of flow. Listening for a bruit in the neck is a simple, safe, and inexpensive way to screen for stenosis (narrowing) of the carotid artery.

What the f...? Ya, he meant brutes...First thing you do when you find yourself in a hole is to quit diggin.
MMarketello
ya beat me too it, that azz clown needs to figure out the english language before he tries to get one over on the paradise boys.

Bruit is indeed a medical term as you described, most commonly heard in the carotid artery as you said, the other common occurence or bruit is the blood running through a dialysis fistula. that said bruit's almost always come with what is called 'thrill" or a slightly vibrating feeling on the surface fo the skin relative to the aforementioned bruit.

Not really sure how any of that applies to Big Stick or his clan but hey the big bad rafting guy said so............

BTW Stick, i nailed a 24lb springer this am, and didnt even have to wear a coat to do it. i got a pic for you but cam took a fateful swim on the next fish and died, will try to get a pic for you off buddies cam
I can converse in "proper" English,if/when forced.

Though I do like to put a mild butcher job upon it in text,so as to put a burr in those with stiff upper lips. I retain the right,to crack me up.

Good job on the Springer. Pictures is always a good thing. Coffee is brewing and I'm gonna head out and try to roll some Steelhead this morning,in the sopping hurricane that is currently doing it's thing.

Hard to get a leg up on this bunch,am thinkin' some may play 'possum and not put all their cards on the table.(grin)

Far easier to bullshitt the fans, than it is the players.........................
Finally got back to Paradise tonight.... was an interesting day. Snow, sun, hail, rain. We even got hit by lightning as we were taking off. Was an interesting ride.... Anyways, took a cruise out to the house to see the progress. They are done painting and started on the cedar ceilings. I think its gonna turn out.....

That is nice.

Mebbe we'll have to have another tour tomorrow?...................
Well, lets head out there tomorrow afternoon and do a walk through. Will be back from fishin around noonish I'd imagine.........
I might have to peel for the work boat,at 4:00PM,so I'll have to leave here at 3:00......................
Well, whatever works for you. We can plan a nooner at the house.... If you want a ride to the boat, let us know. We can always load up the guns n' grinders and play on the way back......
The house looks great. I'll be rollin' in monday night. You guys going to leave at least one steelhead for me?
It'll be sore-mouthed......................
The ceilings are looking good.....

Wish I was home to see the progress....things look to be shaping up nicely...

appears to me you boys is doing good Dave, really cool that you have posted pics to keep us apprised of your progress.

Sadly I have to reckon neither you or Bill will live long enough to really enjoy the place though.

Word is, you both hunt with empty tubes, just a matter of time before you're bear scat and some locked and loaded guy buys the place for pennies on the dollar. (sigh) (masked by a grin)

Looks to be a really cool place Dave.
The Cedar ceilings sprung to life, after the finish was applied and I think you'll be favorably impressed(Momma wants it in here, now).

The cabinetry turned out very nice too and the ball is rolling.

Your last images are just now loading on my 'puter and are certainly from last night, but they don't do the Cedar justice. You gotta see it,to fully appreciate it.

I really like the lighting fixtures and the fart fan in the ceiling. The MuskOx needs to go where the scaffold is,by the 6 bulb light fixture and you guys need a Wolf peering down at floor level,on the opposite side.

All very well done,IMHO and it's gonna take some doing to fill it full of dead [bleep]..........................
No one lives forever....heh. I'm not in a hurry to go anywhere, but would rather be bear [bleep], than kill a pard with a negligent discharge, if those were the two options...

I dig this pic too.....

[Linked Image]
Dave,

Place looks awesome....congrats.

Tony
I was thinking a buck and a doe, on the long ledge, feeding...and a wolf in mid-spring, about to leap the gap....?

I wanted to stick the musk ox up there, but am afraid the view won't do the mount justice, as the base is done up pretty fancy.....
Thanks Tony...it's a headache, but the end result might be worth it....
Billy and I talked about it last night(the MuskOx),my arguement was that no matter where you put it,it's still the same. A big old hairy thing with horns and that's easy to detect from any angle.

Figured if it was up there, noone would spill a drink on him...........................(grin)
Dave,

I agree with what 'Stick said....going to take some doing to fill it with dead schitt.

I am sure you are up to the challenge ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Tony
I like the view in back of Brother Bill....is that off of the kitchen?

Do you have a pic of the musk ox mount?

HoundGirl
HG, no pics of the musk ox yet...it should arrive in Paradise next week...I haven't seen it yet, but others have, and I hear it turned out pretty good...
Quote
Figured if it was up there, noone would spill a drink on him...........................(grin)

Yeah, but it'll be tough to get a pic of Jughead on his back.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Dave, I love the ceiling too, but if I had one like that back in my drinking days, I might well wake up and freak out because I would think I was stuck to the ceiling, looking down at the floor!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I'll have to make a note of that....could be a hazard for Joel to be aware of.........grin......
Hopefully he passes out downstairs. Most times anyhow... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
DavidAk311

What type of heat will you have in this house?
Tubes of hot water, under the floor.....or maybe tubes of hot glycol?
That place is turning out awesome. What's the square footage and what brand of boiler are you guys running, and how big?
It's right at 3900sqft....the boiler info escapes me. We had some fancy setup that turned out to vent wrong, so had to swap it out. Brother Bill likely knows the scoop....maybe he'll chime in when he gets off the boat tonight...
Dave,

BTW, nice grill, that thing is a monster !

Tony
He's off the boat and I'm meeting him at 7,to see if we can find him a Bear to stick an arrow with.

Suns out,it might be good......................
Quote
Tubes of hot water, under the floor.....or maybe tubes of hot glycol?

That will make a great system. Glycol would be especially nice to prevent accidental freezing. What powers the boiler?
It's a diesel boiler....does 144k btu sound correct? Think that's what I remember...
Will there be a dehumidifying system?

With all of that wood and all the moisture y'all have I didn't know if bucking and bowing would be a problem..

It's a really beautiful place...

Mike
If 144,000 is the output that sounds like a pretty good sized unit. It sounds like you will have a well thought out system and one that will do a very nice job for you.

You surely have a nice place with an awesome view. It isn't hard to see why Paradise is a very fitting name for the location.
Nice shack David. She's coming along nicely. That ceiling is something else.

Mac
Thanks, it's coming along nicely....got a kitchen cabinet photo in the email yesterday...

[Linked Image]
Sweet... I dig it... When's the house warming?? (grin)
Forgot to mention that i've found the perfect shirt to wear....

[Linked Image]
and it states "up to 5XL"...........lucky you! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
If you only knew....grin
The pics give some indication!
That was my avatar, a while back.........grin......
Thanks for the reminder! Coulda been mine at one time too. The old days...

dude,

I can't wait to get pics of the completed house and boat.....
What's in the box labeled MILF in the lower left corner of the picture ?
Quote
What's in the box labeled MILF in the lower left corner of the picture ?

Good question! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I've heard of mail order brides...even seen one, but I don't see any air holes in the box ...
Box looks MT and there is a double sink sitting on top of the counter. My guess the sink was in it. But what are the 3 4x4 post for.
Quote
But what are the 3 4x4 post for.

I bet they have something to do with this...
[Linked Image]
Maybe midgets
The MILF box must be something Bill ordered after I left....I enlarged the photo, and noticed the words 'Inflate Slowly'........?

The posts are for the railing, so Joel doesn't fall down the stairs.....

[Linked Image]
[bleep] man...that's nice.......................
Not too bad, so far......I look forward to seeing it......
All I can say is - Damn!
That is really really nice...can't wait to see it finished too.
Guess you'll have to come up for another Fling someday.........
Screen for float-hunting movies or heads? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
[Linked Image]
I'm planning on it...
That wall's for heads....the screen goes on a different wall, though it's doubtful there'll be any more float hunting viewings any time soon....grin....
Thinking the wall WAS the screen...that'd be some theater <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
This shot shows the 52" frame for the TV...and above it are the mount and power supply for a 106" drop down screen....there's a wire bundle in the ceiling for the projector....

[Linked Image]
Not sure what the odds are, that all the pre-wiring will actually match up with the AV equipment. We did the best we could...but we don't know much about that stuff...
Seems like you fellers thought it out. You just need a little luck or creativity on connectors!
check out the new pics I posted tonight, the downstairs guest shower rocks! oh and I was just telling billy how you are the older brother I never had and he said he hopes I never have you, LOL. so look at the pics, I'll take more tomorrow for you.
Someone's caught up on their cooking and cleaning or is derelict in her duties....................................either way I see a storm brewing in Paradise. (grin)

Welcome KT, sounds like a tall order but looks like you've been charged with keeping bros. B & D on the straight and narrer. Oh and keeping the pole waxed too.

Ole Art sure piped down when Miss T came aboard here, wondering if Dave will lose his voice. Bill never has had much to say, except "I'm in love to the most wonderful girl in the world."

Bill will pm you my addy to send the booze to. (laffing)
I'm all caught up with my chores and thinking that the pole will need more then waxing, it is to be my new workout tool. I doubt dave will lose his voice, he wouldn't be dave if he simmered down, and him being silent just wouldn't be any fun. I'm an alaskan girl, and can handle almost anything, but also return it just as easily.....

oh, and no need to suck up for billy, I know I'm the best he has ever known!
No need to change my ways...I ain't the one with the GF....heh...
Good job on the pics, KT....thanks...it's nice to see the progress...

Here's a couple updates for the 'fire...

A more recent shot of the TV wall in the trophy room:

And the guest bath shower:
[Linked Image]
AK girls kick azz, gotta love 'em.

And KT, while I know it's now technically your wallet I'm trying to dip in to get Bill to send me some booze, you can't blame a guy for trying.

Marrying an AK girl (she'd fit your bio well) was the best run of luck I've had in a long run of luck, am thinking Bill may have struck a similar vein down south of here.

Wishing you 2, 3??, 19??? (guess you never know who Dave will bring home) all the happiness this world has to offer.

Getting a little glimpse of your mindset here, I'm liking your odds of grabbing that brass ring.

still wishing Bill sends me some booze though, even if it is your wallet. I thought that was a pretty fair rendition of sucking up.
It was admirable, for sure......grin........
That shower looks great, but I sure hope that's not a "honey bucket" sitting there.
Dave/Bill (KT too) -

That place is unbelievable. Just think, only a few months ago and that place was just a pile of sticks on a gravel pad. Go from trailer trash to royaly...not bad, not bad. Can't wait to see it in person. Keep the progress pics coming,

Fishing note - going to Deep Creek for kings and butt tomorrow. How's work? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Work sucks, as usual...I'm banking two extra weeks off this gig though, so I'm not complaining. Also just arranged for a month off, paid, for deer season. I figure to get my bucks on the ground before you boys show up.

Good luck on the kings....saw a note elsewhere that cut-plug blue labels without a flasher, were productive lately....
Couldn't be any worse than spending a week in Prudhoe, and having to come back to the office the next week to find out your a week behind, and the gameplan changed while you were gone. Not to mention the folks you were on the slope with want you to finish there work as well.

If one could figure out how to afford to enjoy AK and have the time to do it, they'd be set.
Can I pitch you a few things off my plate? Next time you're up here, pizza's on me....

<grin>

Ifn' it were my place the shower WOULD be the "honey bucket."

X-VERMINATOR
HEY!! Welcome, KT...hope you stick around! Congrats to you and Brother Bill....when is the date?

David- all that wood is, indeed, impressive....but where is the hot tub, eh? Lol.....the place looks great....but how is the worry ulcer doin' <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />? Is the boat still going out this week? You guys are gonna have a great summer.....

HoundGirl
I knew you were gonna mention the damn hot tub! I'm too broke to buy one....unless you advocate I skip a couple child support payments....?

Just realized, you said I have impressive wood......was starting to think you hadn't noticed....
......grin.....
I noticed <wink>....

You still lookin' for a decor person for the new flat? Wait 'til you see what I do with my next "space".....clean up has been horrid but she is starting to come together (I am gonna post some pics tomorrow).

When are you gonna come down south for another stint? I'll even have an extra room and couch to put you on...beats the hell outta the floor <but you'll still have to sleep with Slim Dog, again> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!

HoundGirl
I've slept on worse places than floors, and with worse company...grin...

No travel plans in your direction for now....Aug is Africa, Dec is Costa Rica...and in between is deer season...heh....

I figure it's you guys' turn to come North......
damn staight we kick azz...... as for the wallet, it is our wallet, and I am pretty handy at supporting myself....remember I'm an alaskan girl, not some puss azz wimpy girl from the south that can't provide for herself....good luck on the booze, I'm thinking the only alcohol headed to FAI will be going to dad's house. Thanks for the welcome.......

How much disappointment is one man expected to bear in this life? (grin)
Dave LMAO on the "wood" comment.TFF
Can't wait for everyone to see the new pics of the house, the kitchen is close to done, unloaded all the dishes and pans this weekend so when Brother Dave gets home he can cook for me, left his panties for him to unpack though..
well after I wrote that realized I could post the pics for everyone, got the fridge, stove and warming drawer hoooked up the dishwasher is set to be hooked up and will hopefully have the cooktop in next week.

[Linked Image]
Looking good....thanks for throwing the pics up.....I needed a fix......
akgirl
If you don't mind my interruption... I see a little problem here...

The color of the appliances is all wrong!

Brides wear white so the dishwasher matches the rest of the appliances, right?

You don't plan on a stainless steel dress, do you? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Too funny...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
She could slip one of these someplace discreet...

[Linked Image]
the thought of that getting slipped some place "discreet" is what's probably keeping Bill and Dave in line these days.
Have no fear a\v man is hear i can make it all work Dave.DARREN
Good....when are you showing up? <grin>
Absolutely beautiful location and shack! What do y'all do for a living up in AK to get a spot like that.....if I may ask!
I DUI'd into a tree a couple years ago...luckily my seatbelt failed, and I was able to win a nice settlement from General Motors....
I thought you made your fortune by selling the rights to GoatSack Productions? Who woulda thought there was so much cash in videotaping farm animals........
David
You prostitute! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Man new boat and a jammin new crib. I wonder if Ford gives good settlements for malfunctioning stuff...hmmmmm
Congrats on the new house

I doubt she is jealous, just wait until she hears me unload on her later! can't wait for the fishing trip tomorrow!
What time you guys wanna roll?

I was thinking I'd come grab you at 4:00 or so,unless that throws a wrench in the works? I'm gonna travel light, just mebbe 2 rods, some light grub and JugHead.

Bring your Bear Rifle, you've got first shot at everything...................
Wow!

That really looks nice! You guys did alot in just a few weeks since I last saw the place.

Nice to see the folks there too.
akgirl
Well now, matching is matching and it looks like you are holding at least a full house! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Best to you!
art
Oh yeah, and congrats on domesticating Dave! Don't you have a sister for him? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Place looks spectacular guys. Way to go! Especially like the kitchen...Bill done any cooking lately?
Can't think anyone has been cooking, the whole outfit is looking gaunt.

R&R is mandated.................................
can't wait for my R&R down, er, over there. Catch any fish today?
Didn't fish, did a 4hr roundtrip drive with the kids,to start their commute to Grandma and Grandpa's for a week.

Dropped Momma off at work, after the drive and Jughead and I hit the range pretty hard this afternoon/evening. Just spoke with Bill for a second,so as to plan the morning's foray and he was eating dinner and threatened to call me back after the fact.

I guess they are getting some grub...........................(grin)
4?! are you nuts, I'm lucky to get to sleep til 5 around here, I'm liking the 7:30 plan a little better, maybe me and coop will sleep for a while on the drive. Tell kerri I'll call her tomorrow got swamped tongiht and just got done making bread. see you in the am!
Coffee is on......................
Looking like you guys are out of my league now!!!
Have you filled the butler position yet?
Will James be driving you to the fishing grounds at 4 am?
Do you have any Grey Poupon?
Stick - When did you start drinking coffee?

Yeah Matt - they're difinitely way out of our league now. Haven't seen a post from either one of them in a week! Busy busy busy...
It's the ying to his yang <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Ya'll done good and it looks spectacular! I especially like the Honeymoon Suite...
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> [Linked Image]
Must be oldy fashioned, two beds and all in the suite <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
actually jeffrey is driving us to the fishing grounds, and I think I could use some help if you want to be a dog walker...
.....Joel has the Butler position wrapped up. He's been doing a bit better with the housekeeping, with a little coaching. Funny how wanting to keep a 6 figure boat clean, turns one into a boat bitch. Am wondering.... if the financial tables were turned, would flinging blood/gut soaked [bleep] all over the boat still be a demonstration of ones guideship? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I knew buying a new boat would have led me to spend too much time worrying about it and cleaning so....I bought an old used one and treat it accordingly!!! If the motor [bleep] the bed, just kick it off the back in your favorite harbor & tie a mooring buoy to it.
ahhhhh, yer back!
Look at the view out of that window...unreal

[Linked Image]

Most people are lucky to have view like that out of their livingroom window.
I look out of my front window I see twelve other houses just like my own....sh&t!
Fine job on the abode. Ya'll aren't residentially challenged anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Darn nice digs for sure!

Mac
Wow, that place came out awesome. You need to stuff more dead critters in that place though! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I have to say...mighty impressive fellas. It must be real nice making it back home and real tuff to leave for work...
Very nice outcome for your project. House is very nice and in an obviously superb location. I am sure you will enjoy it.
It is not looking good for my transfer at the moment up to AK from MI so it may be longer than I had hoped to get up there but we are looking into alternative venues.
What ever happened to the boat you had shipped and was damaged in transit?? Was anything ever settled? Just curious.

Mark
here is the latest addition to the house, our master bath is finally getting some tile, can't wait til the shower is done....

[Linked Image]
Are you using radiant heat for the shack? I'm envious if you are. Didn't feel like going back and reading 24 pages of posts... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I don't know why....:) Yes, we have in floor heat, and I am assuming it works well, but haven't had it on all summer. I like it cool so I can sleep.
ak. The tile looks cool. The bro's are going to have to put in some overtime on the slope to pay for that place, You'll have to fill thier deer tags for them this year. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Jamie
I'm sure they will take the time to fill their own tags, and hopefully I will get a real job soon to help pay for this place. I figure I'll fill the meat tags and they can fill the big buck tags. I'll shoot anything if it is legal.
Dave going to turn over a new leaf and look for a big buck ?
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
We all had coffee mugs in our mitts, when you and the Family caught us at breakfast.

Nice to meet your Wife......................
I'm taking a month off for rut, I'll try and improve my take......grin....
Stick - good to see you guys this morning. We've got tons of fam up from the lower 48 for the next week. We'll be busy. Hope the weather coops.

Would have been nice to sit and shoot the chit. Have to wait till Nov. Have a good hitch...see you in a week...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Looks like I have some competition in the "If it's brown it's down department" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I'd forgotten about the big shindig and your extry week off.

We'll be here, holding down the fort.................
....we was all lined up, 6 hours late, to board the jet north, when they told us its now got a mechanical issue. Still sitting at the gate....waiting.
Dude....that sucks.....hope you're not stuck on a midnight run.......
....on a brighter note, we did have a good lunch at Hooters.
you left that out of the conversation earlier when you said you were at lunch <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> we ate deer burger tonight and they were yummy

you guys are making me laugh so hard I might be able to count it as my ab workout for tomorrow!
...perhaps (for my own benefit) I should clarify a bit. I shoulda NOT used the quick reply, was meanin to let Brother Dave know of Joels intentions....He already bought a new rubber ducky and a scuba mask for the occasion....

Thanks for the pics, AKGirl, and congrats to all....it is starting to really look like a "home"!! Looking forward to the dead critter room <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! It looks great, thanks for sharing....fun to watch it all come together....

That is a beautiful home!! Congrat's!
the guy came out today and started to stain the house, it looks good. Now let's hope that we have some days without rain so he can finish it. The porch isn't done yet, or the upper half, and you can see where he stopped.

Looks awesome.

What's up with the two sat dishes?
Gotta keep up with the Campfire.....grin.......
Saaaweeeeet! Months, weeks, days....now we're down to hours till its finished.........is it drum role time yet?
Not until I puke off the deck.....................
if you puke off the deck, you are cleaning it up!
I thought you had hired help to take care of that sort of thing...you mean we have to clean up after ourselves?
You've got a dog,I've got a dog...no problemo.

You gotta think deep on these matters.(grin)

'Course,I'd be slow to kiss the dog....................
Dave,

What sort of actual bandwidth do you get with your dish? I am thinking of installing one at my place in Northern MN.

Beargrease
How do I measure it? Do you mean speed? I think 20Mbps is the highest number I've seen when my pointer hovered over the wireless icon on the taskbar, but usually it's around 11-15.....not sure if that's indicative of actual dl speeds?

Overall, the Sat setup is a necessary ripoff...........use too much bandwidth in too short a time, they choke you off. They've also a fancy 'turbo' option you can pay for, which is total BS....
Dave

Nice pad, you burn oil for heat? Saw the tank on the side of the house, how was it getting a plumber out there? Just curious if theres a need for plumbers in your neck of the woods. Congrats, man all from a DUI whos says drinkin and drivin dont pay? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Dude, if I'd have known you're a plumber, I'd have sent you a ticket. There are a few around, but they suck. They are completely booked, too.

We've a diesel boiler and in-floor heating tubes....
That would have been a fun project to plumb. I'll plumb your next house for you! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Dave,

Use this test on CNET to get your actual bandwidth from your satellite setup. I think the other reading you are talking about is your wireless LAN speed. Do you use VPN for work over your satellite and wireless? If so how does that work? The reason I am asking these questions is that I am thinking about leaving the big city and moving out in the boonies like you. Thanks.

Beargrease

Is that my eyes, or two sat dishes?
Is that what all homes in AK have to do?

Look at that, I have the honor of post 800!!

Toaster?
when I wave over mine like dave said he did I get 54 mbps, I'll try your link in a sec...

Stick, you are always thinking, glad you are around....

Here is a pic of the front porch he did today...
[Linked Image]
if I did it right this is what it said
577.7 Kbps - You 577.7 kbps
hope that helps
I upload webistes and haven't had a problem yet, it is much better than dial up and not that much slower than the DSL adn Cable I've had in the past.
no not all homes in alaska are in the middle of nowhere like us.
We've Starband for the 'net service, I believe I recall them saying do not use satellite for VPN.....something about lag time?

The other plate on the wall is for DISH network.....
Akgirl,

Thanks for checking. 578 kbps sounds about right for satellite. The higher number you are seeing is the wireless LAN speed. You're internet bandwidth is 578 kbps or .57 Mbps. Your speed is being limited by the satellite connection and not your wireless LAN. That's the way it should be.

Beargrease
Dave,

Yeah, VPN did not work with satellite about a year ago and I guess it still does not. I do work with big corporations and you are not getting on their network via the internet without VPN. Thanks for the feedback.

Beargrease
Dave,

I have some additional info if you are interested. You CAN get VPN now for home satellite internet service but only from certain providers. Starband is not one of them. Hughes Network offers it on their ProPlus plan. It seems you need a static IP address to do it. You can also get what is called a VPN accelerator (router) that will speed things up. The Hughes ProPlus plan is also 1.5 Mbps which is 1 Mbps faster than what you have now. So if you want to live in the boonies and have VPN access to a corporate intranet it can be done now cheaper than ever. Here's a link.

Well just curiouse, do you guys have to get your signal off of two different satalites? Do you have to manually change over during a certain time of the day?
One dish is for satellite internet, the other for is for DISH tv.......we haven't hooked a tv up to it yet though....
Dave

Radiant heat is the best! Thats pretty sweet a diesel boiler, now all you have to do is brew up some bio-diesel and screw the oil company's! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Yeah got to get out of here, too many people, may be coming out that way soon, i would obviously suppose that you have a septic field for waste? Dude and your better half, are livin the life of riley, God Bless.
I wouldn't call Brother Bill my better half....grin.

Regardless, I'll buy the first beer, when you arrive......
....finally got some of the heads hung up and the trophy room cleaned up. Still got a few mounts that are either hung in other places around the country, or still at the taxidermist. Starting to look okay though.....

[Linked Image]
Sweet....
Do you both get one end of the room? Or combining?

The whole place is awesome!!

mike
Where's the

[Linked Image]

?
That trophy room is looking awesome. Keep updating us with pictures . . .
Thats realy cool.

Jamie
Wow, that looks great, what else is going in there, poker table, pool table, maybe a wet bar?

A brown bear in the corner would go nice I would think.
Awesome! Place is finally shaping up...grin
Goat update?

Weather has been veddy veddy poor here, for Alpinelistic Assaults.

Gonna go tomorrow,no matter what,to break the curse....................
Saw a few goats in between the clouds and rain squals. Worst weather I've seen in years. Bumpy yesterday and not much improvement today. Small craft advisory. Only caught one siilver...derby sucks this year! Not sure if today beat the best day of work.........

Good luck tomorrow....
Coho's are slow here, but the drinking is picking up.

Cheers!.........................(grin)
Back atcha! Fired a few rounds yesterday and quenched the thirst after. Nothing better to do. Can't wait till Nov.

Post a pic or two tomorrow...

Starting to look okay though.....

Indeed. Coming together nicely!
we are sharing the walls, each wall has a theme, the one in the pic is the alaska wall. Not all those animals on the wall are the boys! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
ok, here is our master bath! Love the dual shower heads, we used it this morning finally! He is working on Brother Dave's shower now and then we will be done <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Very Nice!!!

Mike
Looking back at the pics of the kitchen. What kind of wood is the cabinetry? My wife and I are just going to start building and the flooring/cabinets is one area I've been thinking a lot about.

SS
hickory
That arched shower, with the tile work, ROCKS!! The trophy room looks great, as well!

Where is Brother Dave...he seems to be MIA?

HoundGirl
the state's dead beat dad list finally caught up with him....
Thanks, that's what I figured.

SS
I hear a rumor that he and Paco are doing great things whilst stuck in Folsom...

Dave will be out in no time, and back posting to the fire. Just a little "vacation" so to speak. She tried this once before and just like last time, he'll manage to talk his way out of it......damn I admire that guy.
....as an aside, we snapped this photo on the way to see Brother Dave just the other day. I'm guessing he'll be missing this kinda thing in the next few months. On the bright side, I hear he'll be out for the rut hunt.......

[Linked Image]
Cool pic..

I'll send Brother Dave some smokes...lol...that he can trade for favors, while locked up.

HoundGirl
built a place for dave to camp when he gets home....

if maggie will share <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Uh....where is he anyway???? Anyone heard from him in the last few weeks????..........Bruthu Bill?
I believe he's in Africa.
looks like your puppy has a little road rash....
Just recieved word, via email... that he'll be back posting soon. Sounds like he may have a picture or ten to share.
What prison did he email/call from? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />
Just wanted it clarified...that I call "dibs" on his Deer Tags.

Thank you for your support.........................
....check your email.
she has a little road rash, but is up and movig around, she is a tough little girl!
With all the extry Troops, the server is bogged heavily and slower than the 2nd Coming of Christ.

I'll try my Email.........................
OH MY GODDDDD....I'm crying!!!

Brother Dave did WAY better with those Child Support checks, then his bastard kids ever would have.

I wouldn't let that snake he was denned up with, even peek at the images, nor send her another dime.

Sweet!.......................
Ain't that the American way??? I knew he'd pull through in a pinch...... I'm thinkin he actually managed to have a good time.....grin.
You didn't happen to notice the title of the third pic down did you? Almost pissed myself.....
He took one for the Team......................
Of COURSE I saw the Title, thus the above.

I'll be having that Poster for Xmas,Big Momma will be sooooooooo proud to have it in her living room.....................(grin)
Looks like a bred doe...or you stuck to you guns with whoever you told "if I had a dog that looked like you, I'd shave it's ass & teach it to walk backwards"
After seeing some of UJ's moves in the past....I can't figure out if it is left to right or right to left in the picture <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
The look on his mug is PRICELESS..................
I agree... Isn't it past your bed time? Or are you home...
Past my bedtime and will be working a week over.

Hoping to reap 2wks-off outta the deal, but am not certain yet...............
I dropped a couple 300 WSM's on the concrete & put some small dents in the case.....shoot em or junk em? Also bunged up a couple case mouths pulling bullets but they aren't too bad, when the bullet popped loose it came back up in the hammer....shoot em or junk em?
Resize the boogered mouths and if the others will chamber, you are GTG....................
Already resized & loaded em but wanted a second opinion, I hear it can effect accuracy but the dings are pretty small...guess I'll try to blow the dents back out when I touch em off next time.
Fireforming them, will return all to chamber dimensions, barring inordinate acute creases..............................
here are pics of dave's shower..

knew you would all be as excited as I am about the flowers! lol.
Would almost be a shame to whiz in that shower.

Almost.............................(grin)
Sheesh...and I thought it was only women that whizzed in the shower...

Nice tile work.

And, AkGirl....I think the flowers look great....what kinds of flowers are they?

The place really looks great, congrats!

HoundGirl
HG how's your aim? Thats what it boils down to.
Methinks it'd be easier to aim a centerfire, than a blunderbuss...
the flowers are delphinium and lillies. and when peeing in the shower it always helps to have the dual showerheads turned on to help it go down the drain faster!
So whats the deal, you movin to something new? Got an email the the Boyz are back on US soil...should be in AK tonight.
Got the bump I was hoping for,so to align that scheduling,I gotta stay an extry week. Good trade,IMHO.

Looks like I'll be off 'Humpers schedule by a day and overlap you two by a week. Not certain which day is change out for me,but am thinking it will remain Tuesday.

Looked at the forecast and it said rain for a week, down home. Wonder if the Coho are showing up yet,or if it's gonna be thin this year on them?

'Course now I'm hoping the Rut is late,to jive with my schedule..................(grin)
Pretty flower pics Akgirl. Really like the red and white Dahlia.
Plan "B" as of this morning.

I'm on my regular rotation, for another hitch or so,while things align.

Back to wishing for "regular" Rut Timing....................
Work's a hella thing......
Trying to creep up the ladder and eager for any/all opportunity.

Happy to pay dues now,to reap rewards later.......................
I'm sure the "rewards" will be many when you can take advantage of them. Ain't the easiest thing to tell yourself to be patient, but it does have its charms when you have some unmolested extra days.
Well...the house pics are looking good, will be glad to see that monstrous project come to an end. More than once, I was tempted to toss a flare in the middle of the whole works....
Brother Dave, glad they let you out, hope all orafices are still intact. Can't wait to here the stories......Blake
I'm getting all the 16hr shifts they'll allow me and climbing the ladder to boot.

They think it's work,but I know better...................(grin)
Blake, rumors of my incarceration are almost always exaggerated.....grin....
Sounds like all is well at work....I'll see you there tomorrow.....
Didn't figure I'd see you,until I hit the Donut Hole...................(grin)
LOL......
check your email.....
it is the "almost always" that I am worried about........(grin)
Running through images you sent.

WAY cool...................
Not having a supply of Bob's Concentrate is prolly the worst part 'bout the pokey huh? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Sweet pics Dave. Are you recouped enough to come back to work yet? Can't wait to see the videos! I may have to reconsider my thoughts on Africa!
Y'all circulating pictures amongst yourselves and then talking about it in front of the rest of us just ain't right. BrotherDave could at least post 1 or 2 Africa pics for us out of the loop.
Sorry man, had to send a few pics to the family, to start with....grin.

I just posted in the Campfire forum, and am uploading more...
Great, headed over there for a look now...
Heres some pictures I took from the deck of the hunting shack.

can't wait for you to build the big house....grins
Did you see the pic of your new skinning shed?
Again, nice digs.

Wasn't the neighbor's house for sale?

Pretty sure that's the new skinning shed! (grin)
Yeah, the neighbor's place is for sale. We kinda partnered up with him though, and it's working out pretty well.

I don't think he's in a hurry to move. Pretty sure he'd like us to finish the landscaping though...grin..

[Linked Image]
I'm digging the skinning shed. though i might not be able to make it over this year.. we'll see what i can work out.
You gotta be [bleep]' me......
The ol'man set up the elk hunt the first week of November. i might be able to swing over in the middle of Nov? still need to get all of the details worked out. I'm going to try to work it out..
Lew keeps telling me about the neighbors place. He's driving me crazy. laugh Did I mention he's a damn good guy?
Yeah, he's pretty cool.

Found some property for us up North in E Bay....you should come down and we'll take a look.

Neighbor wants around $650k, no?
When is the guest cottage going to be completed? Can we use the neighbors until then?
That place is sooooooooooo huge!!! It looks great, David...but I bet you are working your whaaaatootsie offgrin. What is the extra building gonna be???

I think we're looking at the same two lots. I'll look into a visit your way.
Good times and days
And we lived through 'em!

I remember this is the thread that got me started reading 24 HCF years before I signed up as a member.
Figured I'd toss this up here too....

It has been long enough (probably too long) on the first coating, so we're looking at re-staining the hunting shack.

Sikkens application guides say to sand off all the old stain, prior to new application.

I'm lazy.

Is it really necessary to remove all the stain to re apply? I've read power wash, don't power wash, sand it all, don't sand it all....seems like there are a lot of different opinions out there.

Even if I wasn't lazy, our weather windows are usually too short to sand it all down, then re apply the new coat.

Can we get by with just a good cleaning? Will it look like [bleep] if we do?

Any thoughts?
If you take the time it takes, it takes less time.

Every time I tried cutting corners with anything paint related, I did it over ...

Lightly sand, then power wash and let it dry before you recoat. Don't like that Sikkens schit. An Adirondack friend put it on some VG cedar lap and it looked like schit in 3-4 yr. Heavy body stain from a GOOD paint company is the way to go, every other year. It never forms a film and just weathers to chalk and falls off, minimal prep next go round. Get a sprayer or work in a team, one guy uses a 2gal pump sprayer and the other uses a 4in stain brush you can thread a pole in. Spray it on, and brush it in.
