if I did it right this is what it said
577.7 Kbps - You 577.7 kbps
hope that helps
I upload webistes and haven't had a problem yet, it is much better than dial up and not that much slower than the DSL adn Cable I've had in the past.

We've Starband for the 'net service, I believe I recall them saying do not use satellite for VPN.....something about lag time?

The other plate on the wall is for DISH network.....

Akgirl,

Thanks for checking. 578 kbps sounds about right for satellite. The higher number you are seeing is the wireless LAN speed. You're internet bandwidth is 578 kbps or .57 Mbps. Your speed is being limited by the satellite connection and not your wireless LAN. That's the way it should be.

Dave,

Yeah, VPN did not work with satellite about a year ago and I guess it still does not. I do work with big corporations and you are not getting on their network via the internet without VPN. Thanks for the feedback.

Dave,

I have some additional info if you are interested. You CAN get VPN now for home satellite internet service but only from certain providers. Starband is not one of them. Hughes Network offers it on their ProPlus plan. It seems you need a static IP address to do it. You can also get what is called a VPN accelerator (router) that will speed things up. The Hughes ProPlus plan is also 1.5 Mbps which is 1 Mbps faster than what you have now. So if you want to live in the boonies and have VPN access to a corporate intranet it can be done now cheaper than ever. Here's a link.

Well just curiouse, do you guys have to get your signal off of two different satalites? Do you have to manually change over during a certain time of the day?

....finally got some of the heads hung up and the trophy room cleaned up. Still got a few mounts that are either hung in other places around the country, or still at the taxidermist. Starting to look okay though.....

Wow, that looks great, what else is going in there, poker table, pool table, maybe a wet bar?

A brown bear in the corner would go nice I would think.
