well hopefully I'll have our piles of boxes out of there so that when Billy gets home we can hang the heads and take some pics. I figure getting married in that room is the best motivation I'm going to get to get it cleaned up!

the guy came out today and started to stain the house, it looks good. Now let's hope that we have some days without rain so he can finish it. The porch isn't done yet, or the upper half, and you can see where he stopped.

Dave,

What sort of actual bandwidth do you get with your dish? I am thinking of installing one at my place in Northern MN.

How do I measure it? Do you mean speed? I think 20Mbps is the highest number I've seen when my pointer hovered over the wireless icon on the taskbar, but usually it's around 11-15.....not sure if that's indicative of actual dl speeds?

Overall, the Sat setup is a necessary ripoff...........use too much bandwidth in too short a time, they choke you off. They've also a fancy 'turbo' option you can pay for, which is total BS....

Dude, if I'd have known you're a plumber, I'd have sent you a ticket. There are a few around, but they suck. They are completely booked, too.

Dave,

Use this test on CNET to get your actual bandwidth from your satellite setup. I think the other reading you are talking about is your wireless LAN speed. Do you use VPN for work over your satellite and wireless? If so how does that work? The reason I am asking these questions is that I am thinking about leaving the big city and moving out in the boonies like you. Thanks.
