Yeah Tom, we were mobile on the snowmachines by Christmas, had 8"+ good blue ice by then.
I towed the hard shack out with the tundra 550 fan over the Christmas / New Year break.
I'll hang some pics, if you'd like ? Of course we need pics!! I'd say we have 8" or so here too. Folks are using sleds and wheelers, but mostly with portables and small shacks. My buddy and his BIL went through the ice between Christmas and New Years. It was like $15k to get the wheeler and portable recovered.

Paul; Top of the morning to you folks, I'll dispense with my usual salutation as anyone who's got a line in the water really has no cause not to be having a grand day, you know? You folks remind me of the prairie ice fishing approach, which is to say much more "mechanized" and "civilized" than mine is thus far. This - please forgive me for reposting yesterday's photo Paul - is the sum total of my current ice fishing equipment/setup. Ah, I see the tackle box and coffee cup are absent, so we'll add those two items, but otherwise that's it so far. That said, my hunting partner who got me back into ice fishing after a 20 year hiatus is making rumblings about getting a Skandic or something like that for ice fishing, so one never knows I suppose? Whenever I think about snow machines Paul, my hands start to get cold just remembering the -30° repairs..... My last machine was a 1977 Jag however, so perhaps they've improved the dependability in the intervening 4 plus decades? Good luck fishing sir, I look forward to more of your wonderful photos. Dwayne

Dwayne,
WIth a cooler full of Perch, I'd say whatever you're using is working juuuust fine! Nice work. I've yet to get on the ice this year. I'd much rather fish the open water. But I do like to try to get some nice northerns up through the hole. We'll see what happens.

Dwayne,
The "mechanized" and "civilized" part has taken me 10 years to accumulate !!
Started out like most, spools of line, jigs & tag alders frozen into the slush, from the hand cut holes.
Still have a Swedish made hand auger.
Normally by now, we'd be dealing with 2' & + of ice, building to the spring is sometimes 3' +.
I have a 12" extension I can add to the Jiffy, once needed.
That's hard work with the hand auger !
Deb & I were talking, in the ice shack this last weekend & decided that we like ice fishing, (perhaps) more than summer in the boat.
The peace & scenery are exhilarating & the fire is warm & comforting !
Hey, that's an organized wood shed you have there Mr !
Paul.

I may also like it more with a wood stove. I could see that as being peaceful. But, when I'm in the boat on the lake fishing. All I think about is fishing. Completely clears my head. It's perfect.

It's perfect. tzone; Good evening to you sir, I hope the day was as good as can be in these times and all who you care for are well. Since this is a deer camp thread, I feel compelled to say that there's 3 mulies bedded down just up the hill from where I'm typing, but I didn't see the little spike today who was here yesterday with them. It would appear he was talking when he should have been listening or got a BB gun for Christmas, as something - likely another buck actually - has done a number on his left eye. That didn't stop him from following the does closer than they wanted him to yesterday however. I've responded with a quote because for me, sitting in the tent either watching the line with the window flaps down so I can see the line twitch or if we're fishing a compressed water column just standing and staring down that 8" hole does the same for me. All the world goes away while I'm watching either one. Buddy completely converted me to ice fishing out of a tent now for that reason, though admittedly it's warmer too I guess. Honestly I like to be able to isolate from the others on the lake or even if I'm solo, just isolate to the line or watching down into the water. Anyways sir, we're all wired differently and I surely am glad for that as too many wired as I am might be a wee bit much, you know? All the best to you all. Stay well. Dwayne

We haven't had any big houses out yet. I got myself 1954 bombardier snow coach and we have had that on the ice a couple of times for portable house fishing and light skid house stuff.

Was up this weekend. Me and the GF do an annual thing - night in the shack, case of beer and cribbage. Walk in from the road. Anyway - whe W on cabinets, 12ga pulls, nail heads covered and old calendar pics for backgrounds... Oil painting/art my dad did when I was a kid-
