I’d skip the case hardening. Gorgeous!

back to custom Ruger # 1`s i have been thinking about a 256 Newton in a #1 ? but maybe a 6.5 x 284 with a 7 twist barrel would be better ? I had CrossFox firearms in MT build me a #1 256 Newton several years ago. The MOST accurate rifle I have ever owned, especially with 142 gr. Sierra MK's. Managed to take several mule deer and a couple elk with the rifle, than in a fit of insanity I sold the rifle to a gentleman in TX. Bad Bad move on my part. John McLaughlin was the smith's name. PM Mule Deer here and I believe he can put you in touch. Based on my experience I would do a 256 Newton another 1000 times before I ever dreamed of another 6.5-284 Ulvejaeger

I have decided to leave it blued. It's off having the caliber and maker's name engraved on it. I found a lb of R15 so I'll give that a try with Sierra Game Kings. I'd like to try some 150gr Accubonds but there scarce. When I get back from Georgia I'll be working on a load for it as I have a free range Aoudad hunt booked for September and this is definitely going to be my primary rifle.

That is a beautiful rifle, in both wood and metal work. I've been contemplating having my .270 1B rebarreled to .300 Savage, already did an Interarms Mark X in the caliber and this year I used it for deer season. Made up the load with Sierra 150gr BTSP Game Kings, shot a doe at over 200 yards and the bullet broke ribs going in and coming out. I used IMR 4166 for it, wound up with a good one at 2640fps although as with the Ruger it could work at higher velocity/pressure. Best of continued luck with your .300! https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/12221147/imr-4166-in-the-300
