Similar to another thread, Field and Stream published an article on hunting with the 50 BMG . It didn't exactly leave me with a warm fuzzy. The following quote is from the article.

"Then there is the human element. As with any kind of long-range shooting, wind and exact distance are crucial. If you don�t know how far it is to the target, you�re sunk. On an African hunt, John had 27 misses at 1,000-plus yards and no hits. The laser rangefinder he and Wendy were using would not reflect off an animal at those extreme distances."

Holy crap! That is disgusting! John who? What PH allowed this to take place? I hope he loses his license.

I respect their honesty for reporting misses, but think they need to find a different hobby.

I was very dissapointed reading that article...Those people may be competeant at match shooting,but they are TOTALY imcompetent at long range hunting....No one that is qualified as a long range hunter would be shooting if he doesn't know the distance and confident of making a killing shot....To use a LRF that is not up to the task is totaly inconcievable to me...The articl also states that the only range finder that will consistently work to 1K is an optical one and that is simply not true....The article also stated that the only scopes that will hold up on a 50 BMG is the Leupy MKlV and Nightforce,it never mentions S&B...Very dissapointing.....
