They'll usually lock it out if given the opportunity.

WTF?... Soak it down with "Super Clean" and blow it out with a pressure washer... Let it dry in the sun... Same thing i do when i get stuck with a c--n wagon from the auto auction... The cleaner will prolly cost more than you paid for the Rug...

Odoban. Home Depot or Ace Hardware usually have it in stock.
Also used a lot of acidified bleach to get the dog smell out of the house my son bought a few years back.

I actually tried the following method and it worked--not a joke, actual experience being offered.
I trash-picked a long piece of stair runner carpet from a dumpster. [I am poor, ok?] Thin fake oriental style...It had dried cat piss soaked into it. I got a gallon of Nature's Miracle enzyme cleaner, sold at Wal-Mart. I soaked the carpet in straight NM while it was laid out on concrete, upside down or backing surface upward. I let it set a couple of days, then spread clay cat litter over the surface [absorbs moisture and odor] I left that for a few days, then swept the litter off, then I put the trigger sprayer on the hose and rinsed it, then let dry outdoors. It passed the sniff test, from myself and my 2 hunting dogs. The dogs ignored it so I trusted that it was pretty clean. It looked very nice on my stairs so it was well worth doing.
Good luck!

Hard headed woman involved
If it was me, I’d lay down the Ollie carpet remnants and new throw rugs all over the place.
We bought a $200,000 condo for my son to complete his grad school and pursue his PhD. The place has new white carpet. We don’t want that F’d up. I hope to resell this property with minimal expenses on the back side.
Why did it have to be white carpet?? I don’t know.

I bought a truck at a repo auction once. It’s cab had obviously used as a dumpster/ashtray. It took a bunch of scrubbing, but this worked. Dawn dishwashing detergent, white vinegar, and baking soda mixed in a spray bottle. It was like magic. Removed stains, and smoke smell is gone completely! No expensive ingredients involved either.
If it’ll get rid of smoke smell, nothing a dog could do should overcome it’s effects.

If they still sell that Ozium spray for cars to get the pot and beer smell out, I'd give that a try. Used to be like five dollars or so

Natures Miracle. 18yr old cat got dementia.
Peed on carpet and then peed 2 days later. I used that and scrubbed the two spots twice and then the ol lady did some carpet shampoo
Totally gone.
Weather change...... still no smell, even after the fragrance from.shampoo left.
I dunno if itd work on spots that been soiled more than once or how heavy a single soil it can handle.
Cat was put down after 2nd oops. Sucked but wasnt gonna be a 3rd time.
People come to my house and dont know we have cat til it walks out. Replacement cat has been oops free.
I have a VERY sensitive nose and gasoline or cat piss really honks me off. Wont tolerate it.
There is cat smell outside, due to neighbors tomcat they let wander. He pisses on my jeep tire and fence.
We have coyotes around so his time will be short Bastards proly keep him inside on trash day, when the yotes come through.
