That seems light for a Hawkeye. Other than Ruger Ultralights, I never had a 77 or Hawkeye that weighed in under 7.

I agree....

M77 MK II UL 20", .243 short action. 7lb.2oz with a Leupold FX II 4x33

Hawkeye UL 20", .257 Roberts long action, 7lb.14oz with a Leupold VX2 2-7x33

Savage AXIS II, 24" 257 Roberts, short/long action 7lb.8oz with a Leupold VX2 3-9x40

The hawkeye hunter stock is a light stock. Density of the walnut is like balsa wood. Not surprised the 308 hunter he weighed is at 6lbs 13 oz.

I swapped a hawkeye synthetic stock for a hunter stock. Dropped at least 3 ounces off the rifle.

It's not hard to get a ruger carbine as light as a featherweight compact. Bevel all the square edges of the under side of the receiver. Hollow-out the buttstock.

My 338 RCM goes 6.5 lbs with open sights. It's lighter than the Winchester model 94 I carried as a kid. 7.5 lbs with scope/rings.

How light of a rifle do you need?

I recently bought a new 77 Stainless Scout with a synthetic stock. It weighs 6.2 lbs.

The stock has aluminum pillars and an aluminum bedding block so it’s a good fit.

With optic and titanium suppressor it’s 8 lbs 6 ounces and a little over 42” long. You can get 3 or 5 round mags since the 10 round looks ridiculous. I wanted a light, short suppressor host.

Why does the Hawkeye Hunter have a '"screw" running through the wood stock from side to side about under the front scope base?

Previous Ruger 77, Hawkeyes did not have this. They have that nutty angled recoil lug thing that makes it difficult for stock makers to want to make aftermarket stocks for Ruger rifles.

Possibly Brown Precision? They made stocks for short action Rugers at one time. Not sure if they do after their fire and relocation? http://brownprecision.com

I have not looked at these models, much less pull one from the stock. But, are you referring to a cross bolt for stock reinforcement ? I would be somewhat surprised if they changed the actual recoil lug if this is a 77 Hawkeye. But, stranger things have happened.
