Just going to see if anyone available has thoughts on a Winchester 70XTR 7mm Mauser DOB1982 in NM condition. Found one here local and just trying to gather more info and value from anyone that may be familiar. I do not have a Win 70 in the collection but always had an eye out for a good deal if it came along. Thanks for any input

I had one many years ago. My son took it away from me and still hunts with it. To add to the insult I have to load for it. I would recommend it.

I have one just like it - and I'd hate to have to sell it now... Be careful - once you get a M70, you'll be wondering wth you ever got into Rems...

Pretty desirable rifle. Along with the 6.5x55 ones.

I'd buy if the price is reasonable. They're great guns. I have 3 or 4 on hand right now.

I got one a long time ago.. ( 23 plus years ago) for $300.00 and super low mileage on it..plus it had had a recoil pad put on it and came with Leupold rings and mounts...
Old guy bought it new from a store in Roseburg Oregon.. and after many years of not being able to find ammo on the shelves for it.. He took it back to the store and put it on consignment..
I saw it up on the wall up high and asked about it... guy behind the counter was perturbed, and told me before he took it down and had to put it back up there, that it was chambered in a 7 mm Mauser.. and its hard to find ammo for it... so if you have no idea what that caliber is, I ain't pulling it down, for you to gauk at it. and then expect me to climb back up there...
Told the guy it wasn't an issue, as I handload my ammo....looked it over real quick.. it was spotlessly clean... How much? $300 ...
What?? $300.00, if that is too much, then get the hell out of here...
Nope, I'll take it... I was surprised I heard you right...Look its been here 3 months now..., so there ain't no refunds on it...
Told him to get out the 4473, and I counted out $310....in cash...the $10 extra was for the background check..
out the door 5 minutes later.... and she hasn't left my possession since... the day I pass away, we'll end our relationship...
and got it home took it to the range... and have come to the conclusion, it shoots so well, it thinks its a varmint rifle... Has been that way ever since, regardless of what I feed it...

for $900, that would already be mine! For $900 around here it would still be on the rack in 10 years. $700 tops in these parts. Very nice rifles and nothing wrong with them though.

It would be a push feed, rather than CRF, if that matters to you.
It would not matter to me. Two Win 670 push feeds in 30-06, have been as accurate as my dedicated varmint rifles.
As to the XTR, I recently purchased from Gunbroker one much like the subject here. But in 7 RM. It was purchased as a gift to my son.
Upon reciept, the bore scope showed severe and unacceptable pitting of the barrel. So the barreled action is at Shaw for a new barrel and blue job.
With a couple 1/4 inch end wrenches and a flat screw driver, over travel was eliminated and the trigger pull left at 2.5 pounds.
The stock is made from very nice walnut. I was tempted to switch the XTR stock for the less figured wood on my model 70 Classic. But I prefer the Classic straight line profile.

I sold one to Springcove, for his son....I will let him tell the story. Needless to say, I don't think his son will ever get rid of it.

Patriach of the hunting club had one and it was his dream rifle. Henry was a superb outdoorsman and made turkey calls. I valued his opinion on any topic. He killed something with it annually. Knew the land and its inhabitants. You can learn lots from the old timers. They’ll shorten your learning curve.
