When the Kahles 2-7 x 36 were available, I bought two in the rimfire parallax and five in the CF version, yes 7 total. One with the TDS reticle. Now these are not made, so I buy the Swarovski 3-9 x 36 in the 4A reticle.

Many years ago this is what Leupold recommended...for the "one scope rifleman". I don't think I still have any in service, but I killed a lot of game with Leupold 3-9's and 2.5-8's. Had 20+ at one point.

For me, it would be the S&B PMII 6x42. There are a lot I could get by with but it's my favorite. I like simple things, no illumination, no parallax, no power adjustment, fewer lenses. Simple things have fewer points of failure. The P3/Mildot is a measured reticle that matches the adjustments, bold enough to be visible in low light/broken backgrounds, fine enough for accuracy work, not so cluttered as to hinder the view of branches/twigs, 4 outer posts to reference and subtend from in low light. I don't feel over scoped at 6x in woods or under scoped to 500...though I do appreciate more x's there. The scope has proven reliable in zero retention and adjustments for me. The glass is very good and the resolution, along with depth of focus, is great. It's not extremely heavy or oversized while still having a 30mm tube and enough tube length to work for mounting on most actions. Again, lots I could use and be happy with, but for the hunting I do, I prefer the 6x42 PMII to all others I've used. I wouldn't feel just too slighted in life if my one and only scope was a 6X. At one point or another I ran 6x's from Leupold, Sightron, SWFA and Meopta. They all served me well, and they are what I carried most frequently for a few years while on back pack/rugged country hunts. Still have a few of the SWFA's. Pretty well sold the rest off except for the Sightron, which is really a dandy scope that I have a hard time parting with, even though it hasn't been mounted on anything in awhile. I bet the S&B 6x is a dandy scope.

Edited this original post it was way too long. If you could only have one scope for all of your hunting needs what would you go with? I’m not trying to buy a new scope just curious.
I think I would have to go with my Trijicon Credo HX in 2.5-10 even over several more expensive scopes in the safe. I love the light gathering as well as the durability and the simplicity of the illuminated duplex style reticle that I have on mine.
Hoping this will be fun to read and enjoyable to share with one another 56 mm objective?? I have one of these........cant disagree with your assessment.

However, if less is more.....my Steiner GS3 2-10 x42 is probably as good a scope as i need for what i do.

If I could wish, it would be alpha glass in 1x10x42 with a #4 reticle, 1" tube, and in a compact format. That would cover every base. That does exist, and as you well know, it cannot exist. The closet you can come to that is the March 1.5-15X42 in a 30mm tube. It's my favorite non-competition riflescope. It weighs 21 ounces and is 10 inches long.

56 mm objective??
I have one of these........cant disagree with your assessment. Yes exactly. I love the field of view and didn’t think I’d like that big old objective but I do. It is my go to now. Sits in my T3x and I like it so much I bought a second one.

I'd probably go with the Bushie LRHS/LRTS 3-12, depending on which reticle fit my overall use better.
Most importantly, they've proven to be tough. Secondly, I like the reticles, overall size, X range and feature set. Lastly, the view is very good.
But I hope to never experience a time in which I am constrained to own one scope. I enjoy the process of trying new and different scopes far too much. x2 x13..... x a bunch more You guys make me laugh....or cry. I need a second job or a cheaper house. I'd love to get one of these for every rifle.

If I had to choose just one of what I already have and that would suit just about any purpose it would be the Leica ER 3.5-14x42 mm with the 4A.

MosesTucker: Tough one this - but I would be able to do at least 90% of what I need done in the Varmint, predator and big game Hunting world with a Leupold 4.5x14 variable scope with adjustable objective. I have several of these and they have served me extremely well and reliably. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I am not sure its the ultimate, but I am pretty fond on the vortex ( did I say vortex?) 2-10x40 LH RAZOR Its has a nice heavy reticle sort of a modified #4 but with a couple of ticks for hold over , pretty decent glass, its fairly compact, 1"" tube made by LOW and of course discontinued.

Nightforce NXS 3-15 x 50. Will do it all, near to far, with aplomb. And not let you down. Some of these “lifetime” choices make me chuckle.

Any decent scope in 2-10 range. For 90% of my hunting. But no bigger 3-12 if it was set up as a longer range hunting rifle
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

There are so many differences in hunting styles, game animals, locations, terrain, and personal preferences even for the same hunter's situations that this is nearly impossible to pin down to one scope, or one rifle. IMO.

MosesTucker, you do know that the One Ring you are parodying was was a creation of unspeakable evil, created by the Dark Lord himself don't you?
That being the case, the scope corresponding to it on this forum would have to be a Leupold. If I must pick the means of my corruption, it would be a glossy M8 6x36 duplex.
Oh, the horror, the horror.

A scope no longer made. Leupold 2.5X8X36... That's a great scope; I have several. I didn't know it was no longer made.

The March compact checks a lot of boxes. 2.5-25. Reticle choices, open or covered knobs. 21 ounces. Illuminated or not. On & on.
Hunt up close in dim light or fur off with plenty erector travel or reticle...hint
