22 win mag????? I couldn't find it locally in a store right now if my life depended on. Where are you going to find it when there is no ammo supply? It's loud and subject to rimfire primer issues. Bullet selection is dismal at best. Hardly a man stopper.
16" barreled AR in 556 with suppressor here. A quality one is easily good for thousands of rounds between maintenance and has been repeately proven on battlefields. If I ever had to shoot 1000's of rounds...in a survival situation, God help me. Ammo is everywhere, spare parts/guns everywhere, can pull the upper/lower pins and stash hidden in a backpack, and can provide rapid fire. Can snipe to 600+/- yards with it, shoot elk to varmints, and non-flying birds. I just bought 5 more boxes of .22 WMR at a small gun shop the other day. I always try to keep 1500-2000 rds on hand as I shoot a fair amount of it at both targets and game. Been using a .22 mag. regularly for varmints and game since I got my first one 45 years ago and have very, very rarely had a misfire. It's been FAR more reliable than .22LR in that regard. If I had to carry an AR around with me every day for a week I'd shoot myself. I had one years ago and soon got rid of it. The most unhandy, awkward to carry POS I ever owned.

I never had much respect for 22 mag. It used to be the same price to shoot as 223. Started down loading 223 to light 22 hornet levels with Blue Dot then Red Dot. That was great on small game, etc. until I blew up a really nice little Sako, which saved my face. I decided 22 mag might be sensible and affordable after all. I dropped a big buck at 80 yards with one shot to the neck. 40 grain hollow point. Never saw a deer vanish from the scope before like it was a ghost. That was an eye opener. Coyotes, squirrels, other stuff. It's a very useful all purpose round. It will be on the shelves if anything else is. Just as quiet as a suppressed AR too.

If you aren’t picking a 5.56 or 7.62x39 as an end of times caliber, you are way off base.
Nothing trumps a 12 gauge other than 40mm

If you aren’t picking a 5.56 or 7.62x39 as an end of times caliber, you are way off base.
Nothing trumps a 12 gauge other than 40mm So which is it ? 5.56 , 7.62, 12 ga. or 40 mm ?

Interesting how the 17 ain’t mentioned.
22 mag Suppressed rim fires absolute best for foraging, sustenance hunting. Thinking here a bolt gun better than an auto as the bolt gun could be quieter. For engaging the enemy it's not bad but the shooter should be very stealthy & quickly mobile. Like be able to the hell out of Dodge after a few pops. I once felt capable, but no longer. So a rimfire for killing the enemy is out for my old, half crippled fat ass. Enter a rifle & skills for 6-1000 yards or more to kill &/or demoralize. But that too requires a person to be on the move. Seems for some it all goes back to be able to kill some food quietly & let the young ninjas & operators fight the battles.

Marlin .22 WMR bolt rifle, and my .22LR/.22WMR Single Six. They will do what I need done, and if I need something else, they will get it for me, if worst came to worst.
In any Shtf situation, that dude strutting around in his gucci kit thinking he’s a survivalist will become buzzard bait via some sneaky kid with a 10-22 and a taste for fancy stuff. Nobody is good all the time, and any knucklehead can get lucky at your expense.

😄 I do this exercise in my head all the time trying to decide what is the ultimate rifle, that could handle any situation well enough. But I agree with you, love my rifles and would hate to pick just one in real life.

I like my Ruger 77/.357. Some .38Sp and some .357 rounds depending on what I'm drawing a bead on.

But I agree with you, love my rifles and would hate to pick just one in real life. I don't think it hurts at all to think of what ifs. That way if an if slaps you in the face, ya might have an answer. If you really want to challenge the question, think about retirement & possibly traveling the country in a motorhome or the like. I considered that plan & knowing I could only could take but so many guns had smoke coming out of my ears. A 5 or 6 gun real life battery to handle game or threat situations in all of the U.S.  A 16 foot trailer was one of the answers.

Two legged creatures usually don’t do well with buckshot. I know I'd have a hard time aiming at somebody after they popped a 3.5 full of #7.5's in my face

For me, Survival mode in the wilderness You can’t go wrong with 10/22. I have one sealed box of 10k rounds and few 30 rounds mags. I’d have my boy have one as well. Small game to big game . 10k rounds of 22 is a lot less weight and space than 556 or 76239.
Fighting my way out of the city? then the lite weight AR in 223, red dot, with few 30 rounds mags full of green tips.
But honestly I lost my guns in a boating accident.
Boat drivers are the worst gun owners.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

In a survival situation, a 12 gauge pump with and extra rifled barrel, and plenty of every type ammo. You can kill any game, and defend you home pretty well.

A lighter weight ar. 16" or 18" max and a ss fixed 6 for durability. I have 1000 rounds of ammo Inc 60g a max and several other thousand rds of various green tip and 55g fmj.
I'm got everything on hand to load several thousand 75g hor bthps and 73g ends. Probably dial it for the 75g bthp over 8208xbr load I have going for an all around load. I've got more than a few gen 3 pmags on hand.

If your life depended on stopping a buffalo, lion, or grizzly charge, I don't think many of the choices listed would work out too well.
Maybe if you just wanted to eat a squirrel.
