43 bids from 7 or 8 bidders. Field is narrowing it seems, but pockets seem to be deeper. Y or N?

I have talked to several buyers who paid too much for some of my stuff, and the prevailing theme seems to be "I wanted it, I may not get another chance". They come from all walks of life, urban and rural. Some have deep pockets, yes, but a couple saved for a long time to make a one-time purchase. I suspect that the Pandemic played a role in all this, but I could not prove it.

In general, on the macro level I don't think pockets are getting deeper. However, on the micro level with this auction obviously so. The thing with auctions is always the same. All it takes is for two guys with deep pockets nutting up on having to posses the item up for sale. That kind of situation describes a sellers dream and something I would hope for if I ever put anything up for auction. And whenever I participate in an auction as a buyer I always keep that in mind. No matter what the auction item is, don't ever become a sellers dream. That often never ends well.

Doesn't that seem extreme ? that wouldn't be for me, not that model . but to each his own I suppose .
pricing on the different models seems to go up and down over time.. you never know .. cased sets ?
the market value on those is very low from what I'm seeing . good time to buy I guess ..

7-08s in great condition are few and far between. Good ones were selling north of $3K 15 years ago.
Not surprised at that price at all.

The general appearance of that 99c looks very deficient to my grandads 1941 eg. I realize it’s rare but my eg priceless to me

Does anyone nowadays truly doubt the fact of two distinct gun markets coexisting? One of traditional limited geographic exposure and the other of "crap shoot" nationwide gun market exposure with international meeting of such guns and "monied folk" potential." The ever decreasing gun shops/shows portending nationwide exposure and great potential for uncommonly rare guns and ones of great condition. "Marketing artist hype and con men opportunities." The real consistent winners are, of course, the Internet auction services themselves with exorbitant fees for factually little efforts!

Personally, re such auctions; never went 'there' or did 'that'. My only exposure, the Gun Forums postulating incredible sale prices as viewing typically decent guns at exorbitant prices. 'If' to play in such marketplaces, the only way to win is set your own price parameters and play typically unfortunate odds. Bidding wars reflect a game of potential to be seduced into playing. Best not to go there or play such game. Next best, to be of strong resolution not to engage in bidding wars lest the disaster of "WINNING!" smile
Just my take
Good fortune to abide!
John

Wow, I wonder what a 99C in 22-250 would bring?

I wonder if the buyer will shoot it?

It seems to me that there are less expensive and better options if a person is bent of having a Savage Model 99 in 7mm08 to shoot.

There are a lot more 22-250s than 7-08s.

So? What does that have to do with production numbers?

I remember when the Savage 99C was first cataloged in 22-250 and recall thinking that it was an odd match, given that the 22-250 was a varmint hunting cartridge back then and I never saw anybody, except me, hunt varmints with a lever action rifle. My lever action varmint rifle was a Marlin 336 in 219 Zipper, another idea that didn't sell in large numbers.

I was too busy soldiering to care about the 99C in 7mm08 when it was in production. The last new one that I saw was in the rack of a small gun shop in the Atlanta area during the last half of 1985. The shop had 2 NIB 99s, the 99C in 7mm08 and a 99 375-BG that they had priced for under $250.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

That said, if you have discretionary income, go ahead and spend it however you want to. People pay $700 per night to stay in our condos in Breckenridge and at Copper Mountain during the most crowded weeks of the ski season. Seems like a poor use of that money, assuming that they could visit when the weather was warmer and the slopes less crowded, but whatever.
